If There Was A Major Epidemic / Pandemic Would You Report For Duty?
I just wanted to update y'all that in 2022 I came back into healthcare to work in a COVID research facility. A lot of that covid money went on food & beer.

Nurses Did Not Sign Up for This
I'm sorry this is happening to y'all. I am witnessing hospital infrastructure collapse and the government is not taking it serious at all.

All of you need additional pay.
I haven't posted in several years and I have been retired from healthcare for 2. I had to log in to let y'all know that nurses are the soldiers on the front line when a bioterrorism attack hits (because that is what COVID-19 is). You all should be receiving government sponsored hazard pay.

Should I leave this racist town?
You do realize Trump is about to be president right?

Is it OK to discipline nurses extra for calling in sick on a holiday?
In Alabama this policy is also in affect during certain events (Talladega Race, Iron Bowl, Magic City Classic).

People who don't look before flushing (#2)
I always look but that is because I have IBS and there is always something strange going on: blood clots, undigested food,

Clinical Laboratory Scientist or RN
Well lucky that you live in Cali. California has some of the highest paid CLS in the nation + a union. I've never worked in corelab so my opinion is biased (everyone thinks the machines do all the work). If you can specialize and work in microbiology you will see something new every day. If you live in any other state I would tell the that the pay can vary greatly. There are labs that are paying 4 year BS degree holding CLS less than $16 and you have some that will start off $20+. Not everyone is made to be a nurse. If you are 100% positive that you would hate patient interaction CLS is the way to go.

advice needed
Just fixing it is not proper corrective action & defeats the purpose of performing an audit.

Snow- at what point do you call out?
Not sure how to respond. You know that if there is 2 feet already on the ground you can't drive in it so you will have to call off. But if you know the snow isn't gonna fall till 1 pm and at 6 am the roads are clear you need to go ahead and go on into work.

Who is "essential personnel" in a state of emergency at a skilled nursing facility?
In my lab we have a voluntary weather team for each department. That person has to be qualified to do everything. If you are on the weather team you need to pack a bag and be prepared to stay. I know in hospitals in my area if you are on-call you will be required to come in before the snow falls and be prepared to stay. If you are scheduled to work you are expected to come in before the snow falls and be prepared to stay. ************* FYI: A CNA is essential.

How to survive 16h shifts...
I second this! You can go very far with support hoes and comfy shoes + Dr. Sholls insoles. Make sure your toenails are cut! Overgrown toenails can add to the discomfort in shoes.

I got fired today, how will that affect my chances?
Hey RNAdam, did the other nurse get fired too?

How to survive 16h shifts...
Oh, one more thing. I keep hearing about how nurses don't even have time to pee. You HAVE to pee. You won't be able to concentrate with a full bladder. You must make time to pee.
