Hi all,

I'm a Russian MD, now living in the US as a permanent resident. (GC). I havent been able to get full ECFMG registration, and thinking of switching to nursing. I am currently living in Maryland, but willing to relocate to any other state. Does anyone know of a fast track RN program, which I could complete in a year and isnt too costly?

Hopefully, after you complete the accelerated BSN you will find work, but it is diificult for qualified nurse to find work right now, so it may be just as difficult 12-18 months from now. IMO if you want to increase your job prospects, look into becoming certified as a clinical research trial coordinator in addition to the BSN education. I expect that clinical research will continue through the recession and qualified research assistants and clinical trial coordinators will be needed.

Thanks Dishes, I am currently working in research. But I really miss working in a hospital with patients.

I understand, because the patient contact is what I like most about my job. Also, there are foreign educated MDs working in research at my workplace and they miss the intense patient contact as well.

Hi everyone! I have been skimming this forum for sometime and now just registered. I migrated 5 years back with greencard. I am ecfmg certified now but did not get any interview and I don't have any hope of getting any residency position. I am thinking of nursing degree. I have financial problem plus have little child, so don't want to go to regular class. How do I take associate degree in nursing? From this forum I could get from ADN later we can do bridging course and enter masters in nursing. Is there any online course that is recognised? I have been following info about excelsior but since I live in california and do plan to stay back, it does not seem right fit for me. As a MD, can we just challenge NCLEX? are we allowed? I saw couple of NCLEX prep course nearby. I am sure I will be able to pass it if I am allowed. Is it necessary to do BSN? thanks!

No a Md degree does not qualify you for the Nclex. You are right excelsior is not valid in CA. Since you have passed Step one through step three on the USMLE, it would be waste of your medical education. The match process hard, try studentdoctors.net they can guide yiu through the match process good luck.

There was an MD-RN. Program in FLorida otherwise prepare for 2 years in nursing school to be an RN.

There are additional MD/RN programs available:

In San Diego, California, there is the Welcome Back program for any foreign MD. It is a two-year, full-time commitment resulting in a California-approved ADN. I am out of practice for 5 years now. I have been trying to get in for last 2 years without success. Everyone ask why I don't work and my problem is I am not qualified for anything. I do want to remain in health field and feel nursing would be the best alternative. I don't want to go to any tech or PA path.

Do you know any md to rn course in California. I am based in bayarea. I tried to enroll last year in nursing college but it is quite competative to get in local college here and private are expensive.
