LPN's is this true?

Hello Everyone

I start the LPN program in January at Medtech College (Indianapolis)and one of things the director told me didn't quite sit right with me. She said she had receieved an email from the lady who does career placement , earlier that day and LPNs fresh out of school were making between 19.00 and 22.00 dollars an hour. I am not in the field(yet) but from what I read a couple of post down that sounds a little high for a new grad. I was thinking of making between $15-$17 after I graduate. Who is closer to the ball me or the school? LPNs please let me know what you think!!!

That sounds high to me. I know the LPN's at the hospital (TN) start out at $14-$15/hr plus shift differential.

This all depends on your area and where you are working. In my area in a LTC facility this rate is about right. If your talking hospital then it's a little high.

I know the LPN's that work with me make between $12-$15/hour but that's in a rural hospital in southeast Indiana. You could make more in a LTC facility or a larger city.

RN's where I work start out at $20 so her figure does sound high.

i have only worked military and large cities aka houston, washington d.c., new orleans. depending on shift and weekends 24 and up.

I work as a home health care aide (starting Ivy Tech Indy in Jan) and the LPN I work with made 70K last year as an LPN. Granted that was with about 20 hours overtime per week, but her base is $25.00 per hour (she works for a company called Tendercare and has been an LPN for about 8 years). What's more ALL of those hours were at one clinical site where they have three developmentally disabled boys (hence my reason for being there as an aide, they also have another LPN onsite for about 40 HRS per week).

I work in an IHS facility and my base pay is a little over $22 and hour. Granted I am in the middle of nowhere Arizona. I am an LPN and I just graduated in May.

I am in the process of interviewing as a new grad...lowest I have been offered is 17.00/hr, that is base so doesn't include shift or weekend diffs. These have all been LTC facilities in the greater Indianapolis area.

Wow, most of you recieve really good pay. Here LPN's start out at 12.78 in the clinic, 13.37 in the hospital and 13.00 in LTC. The RN's start in the hospital at 20.75. Of course non of this includes differentials.

An LPN friend of mine started at $18/hr in a nursing home in central Indiana.

here in dallas they start at $20/hr in the longterm care.

Like the other posts mentioned, all depends where you wok. Here is Bloomington, they offer about 22 in a LTC facility; Bloomington hospital is not hiring LPN's anymore as they are truying to get magnet status, thus all they wil have in a few years are RN's and doctors office pay the lowest...about 12.00 an hour.

When I was in Canada, I was paid 27.00 in hospital, plus 2.00 shift diff; plus 14% in lieu if benefits. So it was a nice tidy sum. It was a little lower in the nursing homes but not much. They pay their nurses very well up there and the nursing turnove in jobs is almost zero. Once you get hired, you stay untilyou retire. They pay RN's according to a scale. 1-10. 1 being just out of school and 10 being after 10 years expeience. Well the most senior nurses are making over 75,000 a year.

Does any one know which state pays the best for RN's???

The highest paying states for nursing are New York and California... Pennsylvania, Arizona & Colorado also pay quite well in the larger metro areas.
