what is the average length of orientation for a new grad on med-surg floor?

6-ish weeks on my floor. Then, *welp*, you're on your own, getting running. In all honesty though, questions and collaboration are encouraged, so you're not left completely in the lurch. Why, did you get hired to a m/s floor?

I received two job offers in med/surg-oncology as a new grad RN, but declined both of them due to personal reasons. Here were the proposed orientation times:
1. Level 1 county hospital in a big city: 6 weeks of orientation, plus or minus a week
2. Community hospital in an outlying town: 1 week of classroom orientation, 1 week of floor orientation, then I would have been on my own

I work in a community hospital and all new grads on floors get 12 weeks, unless it's CCU or ED

The people in my class that work in med/surg areas get 8 weeks of orientation.

I got 20 weeks when I was a new grad, but it wasn't in med-surg. Most adult hospitals around here do 8-12 weeks, I believe.

I had 8 weeks. I wasn't technically a new grad but I was new to acute care.
Well I followed RN on first day second day I had 2 patients then third day it was 10 patients with no RN on backup to help if I needed it because they had their own patients.
10 pts is too much, 2 days orientation is crap. I would run, this time when you interview make sure to ask about orientation time !!
They do "team" nursing LPN give PO meds RN do all assessments, ivpb, IV pushes, vital signs and don't think about asking cna for anything or the DON will yell at you (yes that really happened), and I went to med surg manager with my concerns and she laughed at me. Now they wonder why I quit.
