Ivy tech offers Lpn at several campuses. RN is offered at the state and private colleges. There are definitly not enough LPN programs in Indiana or RN programs and some are outrageously expensive!
There is a shortage of nurses but not ENOUGH programs? UGH!

There is only one other LPN program in Indiana besides the ones at Ivy Tech...it is J. Everett Light LPN school (I went there) It is in Indianapolis. It is an 18-month, 4-day a week program that requires no prereqs.

Toni-if you don't mind me asking, what county do you live in? Which school have you tried to get into? What classes have you already got done? I'm confused as to why you can't get into a nursing program. I've seen you on here for awhile, know that you've had a problem...just curious...

I attended Tucker in Marion 3 years ago. It is full-time with no pre-reqs. I don't know anything about clinicals 24/7. The clinical hours were almost all days. I had a few evenings, but if you can't attend evenings they allow you to trade with classmates. It is an intense program. They cover a lot of material in 1 year. If you do not maintain an 80% average in all the classes, you are subject to dismissal. Drop out in my class was 3. They decided they didn't want to be nurses after they started. Anything else I can answer?

Hello Toni,
I am wondering if you got my post the other day in the other thread?
Since I noticed that you said you live in North Central Indiana I thought maybe some of the research I had done might help you.
Lake Michigan College is a community college in Benton Harbor, MI.
Benton Harbor is VERY near the IN border. Many student from IN counties do attend every day. They even use the hospital in Laporte as a clinical site.
They will let Indiana residents of Laporte, Elkhart and St Joseph County attend at a tuition rate of $78.85 per credit hour. That is even cheaper than Ivy Tech. If you are out of that area you can attend for $105 per credit hour. That is only $25 more than Ivy Tech's $80.30/cr hour.
The ADN & LPN programs are fully accredited. They do take Indiana residents into the nursing programs.

If I don't get the other two programs I am looking at I will go here. I won't bother with Ivy Tech mainly because of the hassle.

I guess I should consider myself lucky. I went to Ivy tech for the LPN program (1year 5 days per week). And I just finished the ADN program at the same campus. I could have not asked for a better experience, and I only had to apply to each program once. I agree it is hard to get in but that is just because there are not enough instructors. Well anyway I am proud to be an Ivy Tech grad. Jennifer

Jennifer,
Which campus did you go to, if you don't mind my asking? I'm waiting to hear if I made it in for LPN this August. I was wondering if you had any specific pointers you could give me (even things I'll need to buy, like stethoscope, uniforms, etc.).
