interview dress code....

Published

Ok, I am RN, currently working pedi home health. I am trying to get a new job in a clinic or something and am wondering what is appropriate dress code for an interview. I was originally thinking black slacks, nice top and flats, but as my wardrobe is mostly jeans and t shirts and scrubs i feel a little awkward getting all dressed up not to mention i can't find any flats that i like or am willing to buy and never wear again.

SO my question is would it be unprofessional for me to wear nice black scrubs and my new nike's to an interview? i mean it's what i'd be wearing to work anyways??

Thanks

I'd say go the black slacks and nice top route.

Best wishes with the interview!

I would not do that.. Scrubs are your dress code for work, not interview appropriate.. If shoes are the issue, find those first and them find your top.. You can never go wrong with black pants, nice shoes and top.

I have worn scrubs once to an interview, however, they knew beforehand I would be coming straight from work. I was interviewing for a different unit within my hospital.. It didn't hurt my interview..

FINE! lol ok i'll go find shoes : ) i did already buy a cute top... thanks guys

I interviewed for a different position at my current hospital last week. I found some really cute grey suede wedge shoes at Marshall's. I started with the shoes. I wore the grey shoes, grey slacks, and a chiffon-y blouse. I felt good and I got the job. Good luck!

Ideally, you want to wear a suit.

^^^^I agree ^^^^

Never underestimate the power of being well dressed. Failing that, no, under no circumstances would I wear scrubs.

a suit is always proper, you cannot overdress for an interview. they will definitely judge you on that. make sure your hair is neat and clean. not too much make up and NO fake nails! you want to be professional, not cutsie or going to a club dressed.

I also want to add: wear minimal jewelry. Pearls are always a good choice, you can go wrong with pearl studs and a pearl strand unless they're over-sized. Only wear nose jewelry if it's for cultural purposes. If you have any tats, cover them up.

I wish I could post this as a permanent banner on the front page of this site. Do not EVER wear scrubs for an interview.

The one and only exception I would make for this is if you are interviewing for an internal transfer job and you are doing it on your break from work, and if you have explained when setting up the interview that you would have to do this because of the time issue.

No scrubs EVER!!!! they will see you as someone who isn't taking the interview seriously enough to put themselves together and add some thought into their outfit. Wear neutral colors except white...black, grey, tan, brown, etc. Either a longish skirt with hosiery or dress pants. Heels are fine just not above 3 inches. Hair should not be worn down either...either partially up or completely up. Very very little jewelry And Makeup, and absolutely no perfume! Always make sure to pay attention to details too like your nails (no fakes ..maybe even no polish), eyebrows, etc. Good luck!
