I just want to kick myself. Beat my head on the wall.
On top of that I went out and spent $60 I didn't really have on uniforms.
I had been all but hired at this hospice agency. I came in to do the negotiations for salary and such, when out of nowhere the man said, "We have a week long training seminar in Alabama and we send you there and keep you in a motel during that time, will that be a problem?"
I was totally unprepared for this and blurted out, "Well, I've got a disabled husband and I can't leave my 7 month old that long, so yea, it might be a problem."
At this, the little man, who was TOTALLY humorless and had a very cut and dry attitude, closed his little folder and told me to come back and talk to them at a later time. I asked him if maybe we could work something out. He wouldn't hear of it.
It was like someone stuck a pin in me and let all the air out.
AAAAHHHHHH!
I'm just in agony over this and I'm so disappointed. Why was I so stupid???

Stupid?????? No you were just telling the truth. Probably could have told him a little more politely. Do you still have the receipt for the uniforms? Maybe you could keep one? Best of Luck.

Oh gosh, here are some hugs for you!!!:icon_hug:That hospice agency should've had all of its requirements laid out on the table from the get-go!! Since you said "I'd been all but hired", the Alabama training sounds like an afterthought. Too bad the company won't work SOMETHING out with you!

You weren't being stupid. Is that job really worth the worry you would do if you did leave your husband and baby to go?

How ironic that an agency that is supposed to epitomise compassion and caring is run by such an inflexible and heartless man! That basically sums up the problem in healthcare and nursing today!
Sorry to hear about this, motorcyclemama! :icon_hug:

I am really sorry to hear this. You were NOT stupid. In fact, I think you were blindsided and maybe even a bit misled if the Alabama training had never been mentioned before. I mean, how were you supposed to know about it and plan for it if you had no knowledge of it??? They don't sound like quality people, and his response to you was just rude. I think you're better off without them.
I'm wishing you much good luck in your job search. I'm sorry this happened to you.

I have to agree, if the "little man" is that cold, how would you ever want to work for him. Especially in a hospice type situation. He has no compassion obviously and would be a nightmare to work for most likely.
I guess I'm back to my MT course and doing private duty three nights a week.
Oh well...

NO, NO. NO...you were not stupid. I would have rather said this now, than wait until the last minute and stand them up, or to compromise your family arrangements for this. I think that they should have informed you upfront to give you a chance to decline, rather than do it this way.
You're probably better off without them, anyhow.

It is a blessing in disquise that you don't have to deal with this man or his agency, if this is the way things are run. But so sorry you had to find out after you got your uniforms. Are they returnable? Can you sell them on eBay if you can't use them now? Hugs.
