How Many Classes?

I typically took 15-16 credits at my first undergrad degree. My sophomore year I only took 12 credits because I was taking the EMT-Basic class. I was also an Athletic Training major at the time so I was plenty busy. This semester I took 16 credits (7 classes with a Micro lab, several 1 credits). Never again with a science major will I do that. In the spring I am only taking 4 classes which is 12 credits. But I think taking Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Foundations, and Health Assessment with Lab will keep me occupied enough .

I take between 5 and 6 every semester. Somewhere around 14 to 17 hours. But I'm living with the 'rents and don't have a full-time job (not much of a part-timer either). If I took less I'd feel unproductive.

ETA: I am constantly amazed by parents who work, go to school, and take care of the kids (or some other combination). You guys are truly an inspiration and make me feel pathetic in comparison.

^^ This, I totally agree! I had to quit my part-time job just to keep up my grades while finishing my pre-reqs. You parents out there with kids that work and still manage school have my upmost repsect for sure!

It depends....courses you do not want to take a full semester are with especially Microbiology, chemistry, Medical terminology, A&P and math classes, algebra and stats if you have trouble with math. But it all depends on what you good at. Some semesters I took 4 classes got 4 A''s some semesters I took 2 classes because I know they would be time consuming classes.

Wow lol, now your freaking me out lol, I plan to take 3 full course semesters before getting into my nursing program.....each will have some of these classes you mentioned.

I actually just added another class last night to my spring schedule. So next semester I'll be taking 6 classes, and a total of 19 hours. I'm not working while in school though, and I have no kids, so it's a bit more do-able for me.

Next semester I'm taking:

College algebra I

English Comp II

Developmental Psych

A&P I (and A&P I Lab)

Western Humanities (required humanities elective)

Spanish 101

I added Spanish in because I want to take a foreign language, and I want to start early enough that I can have time to get a full 2 years of it in.

I work full time and have a family (no small kids), I'm doing three classes (10 credits); chem, general psych and english online. In my situation, I wish I didn't take the english. I need more time for chem and just don't have enough hours in the day. But... less than two months and this semester will be over and I can start sleeping again! In the spring I'm planning on microbiology and developmental psych. I'd love to get the second english comp done too, but I'm not sure if I can do another semester like this if micro is going to be as hard for me as chem has proven to be.

well I already did all these preqeqs so got a good idea of what it takes. I have a family and was working fulltime. If you dont work, got no kids and home wit your parents it can be done all fulltime if you put the work into it. Its just some people think they can handle it and end up with low grades which means difficulty getting into the nursing program of yr choice. Dont mean to scare u, u might be a genius who knows...i withdrew from my first attempt at micro beaucse it was too much for my schedule ,A&P is easy jus time consuming with lots of chapter to read, to me math is also easy but again time consuming good luck.

I'm a stay at home mom, but have 5 kids, however they are all in school now which gives me plent of time to study as I will be home by noon in all classes......that gives me 3.5 hours per ay to study before they get home as well as once I send them off to bed, so I have at least 6 hours a day to study plus tuesdays and thursdays as I only have 1 class on those days.....I'm pretty sure I can do this and have already started studying some things beforehand, which gives me at least a base understanding as well as body organization and I have already had med term a long time ago, so I just refreshed it and am able to do 1000+ words already from my flash cards and text book......what scares me most is chem.......it doesn't come easy to me and I will be taking it next fall with AP1, Life Span, and Intro to Algebra.....maybe I should consider taking it during the summer alone instead? And LOL@ me being a genius.....hahaha I wish!!!!

One of my very good friends is a mother of 4 and two semesters ago she took 22.5 credits in one semester!!! It was a combination of campus, online, and accelerated classes. She did this so we could go through the RN program together. I helped her study a lot because I had already taken all of those classes and by a miracle she passed all of them. The people in the admissions office had a pool going for whether she was going to pass or not. I do not recommend taking that many at once lol!

WOW! I would have died. The most I've taken in one semester is 17 and that was tough on its own.

I think you can definitely take full semesters that include the nursing prereqs. It's hard but not impossible. I take 14 to 17 hours a semester with at least two of my nursing prereqs in each semester. I want to get out of school ASAP, so I'd rather take more and deal with it than spread it out over a few more semesters.
