Help.Cannot get a JOB!

Published

I am in Louisville and since going on maternity leave I cannot get hired! I am from VA and I have never had this much trouble. I have been applied for RN positions constantly for the last year, especially with Noton. I have had 3 interviews out of the 100+ apps. They act like I am hired then I get the "thanks but no thanks e-mail"

Anyone else having this much trouble??

Yes! I find myself in the same position. Perhaps the worst of it all is that my "friends" think I am not doing something "right" or that perhaps I am not really trying!!! I have 25+yrs experience, have begun looking outside my specialty (OR) and when I do, it seems the opinion is not recent Med/Surg experience. It is a mystery to me. NEVER, never had problems like this. I too have about the same ratio of apps to interviews..again all positive and then the thanks but no thanks e-mail. Any luck for you yet? Sure hope so....if things do not improve soon...will have to consider leaving the area!!!!! Or traveling..not what I really want to do, but one has to eat!

No job, yet for me. Are in Louisville? I my backwground is critical care. I applied to a med surg position via the internet, of course, and not even 3 hours had passed when I got the thanks but no thanks e-mail. I had an OR position interview last week. I do not have OR experience but the lasy acted like she was going to hire me. I called HR this past Monday and no one has returned my call.

I am seriously thinking about changing professions. I cannot pay my student loans and those people are blowing up my phone, email box, and mail box. The best part is my license can be revoked if I default.

I am so down I just do not know what to do. Good Luck, I hope you find something ASAP. I feel like they see my name on the application and immediately out in file 13.

Yes I am in Louisville! Maybe it is more difficult here because there are 3 nursing programs pumping them out.....Funny, I probably interviewed for the same OR position you did. Heard today another candidate was selected...hope it was you!!!! I am so tired of the disrespect of not returning calls and never informing the outcome of interviews etc. The expectation of professional behavior should work both ways......I've even completed all 3 levels of interviews down to peer review and hear nothing, and never have inquiries about status of hiring answered. The worst is UL Hospital (where I trained for the OR many years ago)...does not even entertain or pretend to entertain my applications -at least 20 of them- I get an e-mail

form within 2-3 hours stating someone else was selected...and the position remains posted....after 4-5 attempts to speak to someone, I was informed the reason I was not chosen was that I do not scrub (never mentioned in the posting as a requirement!!!) Whatever!!!! So, I know you said you have dealt with Norton's, I am going to offer a couple of other ideas....please do NOT think I think you are stupid by making these suggestion..you are just not from this area.....there is Kindred Hosp and they always seem to need ICU nurse... Not the ideal position related to the type of patients they serve (ones that no one else with take)...very challenging, difficult work..not really respected by the nursing community here!...don't understand that either..and there are the Southern Indiana Hosps..is your licence a compact state? I am so sorry.....I do know how you feel...IF I hear one more time "there's always jobs for nurses" I think I'll lose my mind!!!! Wish there was something I could do to help!!!! I too am wondering what else I can be??? Sucks! Hang in there, keep in touch, one of us has to get lucky soon!!! Write me anytime...at least I won't treat you like there is something wrong with YOU! Good Luck!!!!

I've been applying all over too, my problem is I'm still a new grad RN. Graduated in May 2008 so NO ONE is even looking at my application/resume regardless of prior experience as an LPN. I've begun to think I've wasted my time returning to school to get my ADN. I know alot of the problem is my fault, but now I can't even score an interview and now I'm competing for jobs with the new grads for the 7 RN programs in the general area. Anyone who thinks it's easy to find a new grad RN job in the Louisville vicinity must already have said job lined up.

Got a new baby, and my husbands income just isn't enough. Student loans are in forebearance for now. AND now I have people telling me to get my BSN while I'm waiting to find a job like that's feasible with no money.

It's really bad when those WITH experience are having trouble finding a job.

The Louisville area is saturated with RNs. University of Louisville graduates a BSN class three times a year (May, August and December)!!! Plus there is Spaulding University and Bellarmine (which has an accelerated program that you can get in with ANY undergraduate degree). Galen has an ADN-RN program as well as JCC....soooo, needless to say, I know several BSN graduates that do not have jobs. The "nursing shortage" is a joke....perpetrated to keep those students applying and entering lucrative RN programs. Good luck!

Can't get a job either in Northern KY.

Amen, amen and AMEN!!! I am a bachelor's prepared RN and I have never had so much trouble getting an interview in my life! And I agree with the post earlier that said she's tired of being ignored and her phone calls never being returned!! VERY unprofessional! So, don't waste your time getting your BSN...it doesn't help! I've toyed with the idea of getting an FNP degree but I'm afraid I won't have any better luck with it than I have with my RN degree. I'm considering traveling but they probably won't hire me either. Very frustrating! I had better luck landing jobs with no degree at all!

what about applying for and working in a nursing home for a bit until something better comes along? also there is always the VA hospital as well as FT. Knox army post that is in need of nurses...i'm currently doing my LPN to RN bridge but hopefully next year will be finished. I hope like heck i can find a job quickly and start working after i graduate!

Sorry for reviving a 5 month long dead post BUT i just started my pre-req's for an ABSN program, and talked to my aunt about it who is a nurse(25+ years) in nj. I am not here to discourage anyone but she did say that fresh grads are having a very hard time getting jobs recently, especially if you don't have any experience, and even told me to pursue RT instead, even PA.

Is it really hard to find jobs all over? or just in a few states including KY and NJ?

Right now it's hard to find a job all over. Honestly I don't think RT is any better right now. So it's definately not just KY and NJ.

By being so behind on your student loans and with a low credit score (not paying student loans on time), why would an employer hire such a liability? They have a right to check your credit and determine if you're a financially responsible employee. This may be a possible explanation for why you are still unemployed.
