  1. U of L hospital offers domestic partnership benefits
  2. Very well said, education IS a business and they are in the business of making money (i.e. tuition)~ so sorry to hear that you can't even find a job in Louisville. Maybe you should try getting an Indiana license.
  3. I have 9 years of ICU/CCu experience and I made 69,000 for 2009. BUT...the caveat is that I work nights (10% extra) and every other weekend (35% extra).
  4. Oh, and another thing...I would only consider Louisville or Lexington for diversity and fairness.
  5. I am a gay woman and my partner and I are both nurses....the city if fairly tolerant and I work for the government, so I don't have much to worry about since it is llegal to discriminate against us. The VA just started domestic partnership coverage for Long Term Care only. I figure it's just a matter of time before federal employees can cover thier domestic partners under the health and dental insurance programs. My partner went to Galen and she had no issues with her class knowing that she is gay. I would totally recommend the Highlands area for diversity, however it is a little pricey. Look at Hikes Point as well, it's a working class and intergrated area. There are 3 (including my own) gay families on my street alone. My children are teens and they have not had any problems at school or camps with people knowing that they have gay parents. I welcome you to email me or PM me for more specific info or questions! Good luck!
  6. There are several new grad RNs that are reporting difficulty finding jobs in the Louisville market.
  7. The Louisville area is saturated with RNs now thanks to all the RN schools here. The hospitals are being picky and it's difficult for new grads to find work. Several new grads have to pay back the hospitals that gave them money for nursing school because there are NO JOBS for them! How ridiculous....the "nursing shortage" is a scam.
  8. The Louisville area is saturated with RNs. University of Louisville graduates a BSN class three times a year (May, August and December)!!! Plus there is Spaulding University and Bellarmine (which has an accelerated program that you can get in with ANY undergraduate degree). Galen has an ADN-RN program as well as JCC....soooo, needless to say, I know several BSN graduates that do not have jobs. The "nursing shortage" is a joke....perpetrated to keep those students applying and entering lucrative RN programs. Good luck!
