  1. Thanks everyone. Came down to signing the Med Report or looking for new job....so we signed....(wimps). Was very illuminating how the DON's attitude was regarding at fault...then threatened to report each of us to the Ky Board of Nursing...as since they were not received in 24hrs, we have made an illegal act according to the "Nursing Process". Love my job....LOL!
  2. Hi! I work at at Methadone Center. Mon 6AM the 2 RNs (myself included) attempted multiple times to open our safe and retrieve the necessary medication to begin our daily doing of outpatient clients (they call them clients rather than patients here). After multiple attempts by both nurses, we were unable to unlock safe. We contacted our supervisor at home via cell and were given instructions to contact a locksmith and have them come ASAP to open the safe. The locksmith arrived at approx 06:40, by 0930 they had opened the safe and we began our routine of daily doing. Clients that had arrived while safe was NOT open were informed of situation, given the clinics number, instructed to call back to see when/if safe was open and they could return to dose later in the day. At the end of our work day, 2 clients had called to let us know that they would not be able to make it back to clinic- two never informed us of their decision to not return that day. This information was communicated to DON by our supervisor. She (the DON) then insisted that we were to fill out medication error forms for these clients. We told our supervisor that we would be very glad to fill out whatever Occurrence/Incident form they desired to document what had happened that day, but would not fill out med errors as we did not believe there was a med error! Our supervisor informed me that the DON had told him it would be insubordination if we do not fill out a med error for each client that did not dose on Moneday., and I quote, "Any beginning nurse know that this is a med error"- I have been a nurse for >29yrs, my co-worker have been a RN for approx the same # of years. I guess my question is....IS THIS A MED ERROR? WOULD YOU SIGN ONE? WHAT SHOULD WE DO? She expects this from us on Moneday. Help!!!
  3. Yes I am in Louisville! Maybe it is more difficult here because there are 3 nursing programs pumping them out.....Funny, I probably interviewed for the same OR position you did. Heard today another candidate was selected...hope it was you!!!! I am so tired of the disrespect of not returning calls and never informing the outcome of interviews etc. The expectation of professional behavior should work both ways......I've even completed all 3 levels of interviews down to peer review and hear nothing, and never have inquiries about status of hiring answered. The worst is UL Hospital (where I trained for the OR many years ago)...does not even entertain or pretend to entertain my applications -at least 20 of them- I get an e-mail form within 2-3 hours stating someone else was selected...and the position remains posted....after 4-5 attempts to speak to someone, I was informed the reason I was not chosen was that I do not scrub (never mentioned in the posting as a requirement!!!) Whatever!!!! So, I know you said you have dealt with Norton's, I am going to offer a couple of other ideas....please do NOT think I think you are stupid by making these suggestion..you are just not from this area.....there is Kindred Hosp and they always seem to need ICU nurse... Not the ideal position related to the type of patients they serve (ones that no one else with take)...very challenging, difficult work..not really respected by the nursing community here!...don't understand that either..and there are the Southern Indiana Hosps..is your licence a compact state? I am so sorry.....I do know how you feel...IF I hear one more time "there's always jobs for nurses" I think I'll lose my mind!!!! Wish there was something I could do to help!!!! I too am wondering what else I can be??? Sucks! Hang in there, keep in touch, one of us has to get lucky soon!!! Write me anytime...at least I won't treat you like there is something wrong with YOU! Good Luck!!!!
  4. Yes! I find myself in the same position. Perhaps the worst of it all is that my "friends" think I am not doing something "right" or that perhaps I am not really trying!!! I have 25+yrs experience, have begun looking outside my specialty (OR) and when I do, it seems the opinion is not recent Med/Surg experience. It is a mystery to me. NEVER, never had problems like this. I too have about the same ratio of apps to interviews..again all positive and then the thanks but no thanks e-mail. Any luck for you yet? Sure hope so....if things do not improve soon...will have to consider leaving the area!!!!! Or traveling..not what I really want to do, but one has to eat!
  5. Well you are soo right about no sleep, do think the advice to seek attorney is good, just wish I knew if i did "explain" , if that would somehow be used against me? Or just go in resign and not say a thing about it and maybe a miracle will happen they will just say "good riddens?" This is a bad nightmare............thanks again for listening. And any other advice you might have!!!!
  6. Thank you sooooo much for answering my plea......I am a wreck, and yes it is their policy to do random (they say computer selected) drug tests at work, I am afraid that if I discuss this with the "boss" then it will is essence be a confession, (moot point since they already have my urine), and when/if I face the BON, it can be called into the discussion. And to answer other questions.....this is the one and only time I have ever or will ever test positive in 25plus years of nursing ..pre-employment, random, etc....Oh, do I regret my actions in Jamaica on vacation!!!!!! Really believed that by the time I returned to work my system would be clean....guess you have to have a problem with this stuff to KNOW how long it would remain in my system. So I have to decide IF I resign tomorow before the results come back in. Thanks for listening!!!!
  7. I am so ashamed!!! Just came back from 2 week vacation in Jamaica, well, I have to admit indiscretion concerning ganga. Returned to work 2 weeks ago and last Fri got hit with random drug test, no way out of it so peed in cup. Went home bought at home test....really believed it would turn up negative for THC..(been 2+ wks)..........BUT........it's positive.....this is not my normal behavior, been nurse 25 yrs, multiple drug screens with no worries as I knew I was clean..............now my questions 1. Do I go in to work tomorrow and resign BEFORE results come back? (Zero tolerance policy) 2. What do I say as why I'm leaving? Do I confess? 3. What about Ky BON? HELP HELP HELP..........already screwed my life up by a stupid decisionon vacation can't afford another mistake!!!!!! TIME IS SHORT PLEASE REPLY ASAP if you have any advice.......Thank you
