MTH 120 is a requirement for the RN school I applied for, but I have 2 other math classes beyond this (although not the actual 120).
I got my acceptance! But I called to make sure I didn't have to take this math prereq. The receptionist said she wasn't sure, but maybe they accepted my other math classes. She said they will call next week.
Now I'm worried I shouldn't have said anything, but I didn't want it to be an issue later! If I have an acceptance, can they take it back if THEY overlooked something? I have MTH 200 and MTH 150, so I'm hoping they just accepted this in lieu of MTH 120.
Anyone run into something like this? My husband says there's no way they would overlook something like that and I need to calm down....he thinks they look at admissions stuff very carefully and I wouldn't be accepted if they hadn't waived the requirement.

If you have taken more advanced math classes I don't see why this would be an issue. Especially since you can test out of the lower level math courses and go straight to higher level math courses.

Course numbers are different depending on the school so I don't know exactly what math classes you are referring to. College algebra, maybe? I would *think* that since they accepted you and said nothing about the math course, then you are really accepted and they won't "take it back." It wouldn't hurt to get in touch with someone in the nursing program like an adviser who would know for sure, though.

Nursing committees are pretty thorough with their review process, so I would think you'd be okay. If it was an issue, they probably would have given you provisional acceptance with contingency upon their required Math course. I'm sure you're fine, especially if your Math courses are an upper-level in comparison to what they require.

Hi kellerev! I don't think you'll have an issue. I have a Bachelors Degree, however I'm returning to school to become an RN. I had several maths that were higher than the required Math class for the nursing program that I was accepted into and didn't have to complete the lower level. I think you'll be just fine. Good luck with school!!!

If they accepted you and took the higher levels then they probably consider you beyond the level. I didnt have to take the basic math courses because my calculus 1-3 took it's place. Usually higher levels that cover the basic stuff in it can be substituted.

I ran into a similar situation after I was accepted. I had transferred from another school where a different math class was required than where I got accepted. When I went to register for the nursing class I got a restriction. I went to the registration office and the lady tells me I have to take that math class over the summer before I can register. So then im freaking out, but I had a gut feeling that she was wrong so I emailed the head of nursing and asked her. Turns out the math class did count the computer just didn't recognize the different class number.
I think that you are fine. I don't see how they could overlook something like that when they viewed your transcript to accept you!

All of my experiences have been that if you have a higher level course, that overrides the need for the lower level course. So if the requirement is pre-calc and you've taken calculus, you don't need to prove that you've taken pre-calc.
