I am a new nurse (ADN) as of May 2006. I currently work in the Emergency Department. I am also taking classes for my BSN. I am researching hospitals that utilize weekend options, Baylor plans, and weekend shift differentials. I am especially interested in if any hospitals have found moral problems with their regular full time nurses when, on occasion, they have to work the weekend to cover the time off accrued by the weekenders. I am also interested in what kind of weekend differentials are being used to offset weekend shortages. If anyone has any information, I will be glad to hear from you, that is, if I can figure out how to get responses. The computer world of emails and other communications is just as new to me as nursing is. As I said before, I am a new nurse. What I didn't say before is that I am over the age of fifty and teaching an old dog new tricks is not easy. Please be gentle.

I am also in Kentucky and am trying to find a weekend/baylor position. Good luck, there arent many. And when there is one, they usually hire in-house first. What part of ky are you in?

I live western KY in Hopkinsville and I work in Madisonville. I beleieve Greenview Medical Center in Bowling Green has the weekend option. They are part of HCA which includes Centennial and Skyline to name a few.

Hey, I am from Owensboro and the OMHS hospital has weekend option. I am doing my 120 hours with a weekend option nurse right now.

How does their weekend option plan work? I have seen many variations of the "Baylor Plan". What are the details of the plan they use at OMHS?

I'm not in KY, but here, Baylor nurses work 2 12-hr shifts on the weekends, but get pay for 40-hrs.

Hi there! I'm in KY too, though I'm kinda far from where you are. =) Lexington area here. I was job hunting recently and had some trouble finding a Baylor program myself. That's OK though; my husband and I have talked about it and agreed that I don't want to give up all my weekends, especially since we have a little one about to start school in the fall, so her weekdays will be taken!

Hello Ky. I am also a Kentucky bred nurse. I am 43 and have been a nurse x 17 years. I admire you for your courage, strength and stamina.

This is going to sound cliche, it's true. It really works. I've seen it with my own eyes! I work in a 242 bed community hospital. We do not offer WE diff. We have limited Baylor plans. What we do have is a positive culture. In fact, I am about to kick off "Every 1 hour patient rounding" on both my MS floors. It sounds daunting but is very effective.

I'm doing a poor job of getting to the point. I understand the need for financial security. Now I understand the need for a positive culture that allows me to be autonomous.

Money ain't everything. Hang in there, you will find your nich.:roll
