  1. KY: 13-14 days LTC 12-13 days Hopital IN:15-16.50 days LTC 13-14 hospital days
  2. I am a new grad and I did no clinicals in a LTC setting, they were all in a hospital settings. After I left KY( where I went to school) I moved to IN. LTC is where most LPN's get jobs and having no experiance in LTC really did me in. I lasted 3 weeks at my first job in LTC, I jusst now started a different job that I really like. Hang in there!! I know I am trying to as well!!
  3. I wore a pair of black pants and a white button down shirt (untucked), for another I wore a simple black skirt and a blue button down top. I got both jobs so I must have looked good!! :smiley_aa :smiley_aa
  4. Thanks for all your advice. After working a couple of more nightshifts I decided that if I was offered the other job I would take it. They called me in today for a 2nd interveiw and offered me the job and I took it!! I am so excited. I really enjoy workign with individuals with MR/DD and that is what I will be doing. I worked as an aide in a ICF for MR/DD individuals and that is when I decided to become a nurse. I didn't feel excited about the LTC job, I just felt like I was starting a job. I feel excited about this one....plus weekends and holidays off!! Thanks Again, I will keep you posted!!
  5. I just graduated from LPN school about a month ago and when we had our pinning ceremony we were presented with caps and pins. We never wore them to clinicals or anything. There was this one nurse, however, who was very old-school and wore her hat and all whites everyday. One thing is for sure, everyone knew she was a nurse.
  6. First of all, today I got my first nursing paycheck..I was very excited about that ....second of all...I really don't like the job that I just started. I applied for this job in LTC and got it. It is a night shift position...8 hour shifts. I thought I would like it alright because my husband works nights, but now I realized LTC is not for me and neither is night shifts. All I do all night is some paperwork and then CNA work for the rest of the night until I do my morning med-pass. I feel like I am not really putting anything I have learned to use. I have another job interveiw at another facility this Friday and it is a job that I really want, but I would hate to just quit this other job after they just trained me in!! I feel bad but I seriously don't like the job!! I should have looked around more before I just took a job. What should I do??
  7. I am a new grad that just got licensed in Indiana. I did all my schooling in Kentucky and I was floored at what LPN's can not do in IN that they can in KY. The city that I did my clinicals in KY really utilizes LPN in Hospitals, in IN, regretfully, LPN get the short end of the stick and are rarely hired in hospitals and lean more toward LTC and Clinic work. I was very upset as I was hoping for hospital work. Now, I am going for my RN/BSN to get out of LTC. Not that I don't like LTC...just not my cup of tea. :smiletea2:
  8. At OMHS the nurses either a Friday, Saturday, Sunday all 12 hour shifts, or Saturday, Sunday, Monday 12 hours shifts. I am working with a preceptor right now that is the the Fri-Sun. If you want to know more I can ask her exactly how it works. Some work 10's and get paid for 40.
  9. Hey, I am from Owensboro and the OMHS hospital has weekend option. I am doing my 120 hours with a weekend option nurse right now.
  10. I am finally done with my LPN program and working on my 120 hours and soon to take my boards. I can't wait to move on to the next level and start the RN program. My first semester was great and on my first day of clinical I about died. But I will never forget a second of it. I started with a 4.0 going into the program and I will be graduating with a 3.77. I was a long hard road and PRAISE GOD it is almost over. Goodluck to you!!! You will do great!!
  11. Nursewannabe, Working fulltime plus school is totally workable. I have been doing it for 1 1/2 years and I am almost done. My whole class consists of fulltime workers and mothers, however, we are in a weekend program and have classes on Friday and Saturday. As far as the workload, it was hard and extra time was slim to none. But when I look back now (1 month from having my license!!) it was all worth it! I sure that you will find that you can do more than you think you really can! Go for it, and see if there is a weekend nursing program in your area!
  12. I am in the last semester of my nursing program. We have had a good run with instructors up until now. When we started having problems we took it straight to the Dean of Students. Hopefully, everything will come out alright in the end. But I know how your daughter feels. Tell her not to be discouraged and take action if needed. Not everyone is going to be pleasant to work with, but nursing instructor's should be supportive not abusive. The quality of your experiance as a student is important...I will never forget it.
