"Heating Pads"

Is anyone else a grinch about them? I don't feel like they are truly necessary here 99.9% of the time... I am asked for them about 5 times/day, so I recently started telling people no. I feel it's excessive. The one's that come get them also think they need them every single day of their menstrual cycle each month, so it seems like a vicious cycle and I'm trying to cut down on some unnecessary visits. I have even had teachers asking for them... Is it awful to phase them out completely?

Curious on everyone else's thoughts.

Well, I don't feel so bad for wanting them gone now. I think they will not be a thing at all next year. Typing up my beginning of the year speech now. Haha

I should specify that I am referring to a cloth bag filled with rice; I wouldn't use a plug-in pad at all... and likewise, if I don't get them back you're on my poop-list. My school is small and they usually get returned eventually...

I only have the hot/cold gel packs. All the girls call them heating pads here.

Even the reheatable hot packs?

Nope. I don't think I'd ever get those back.

I think I need to champion for an ice maker so I can be done with these darn hot/cold packs all together.

Yes! I LOVE my ice maker. Got it at the end of last year. It is a godsend. The kids can take their ice pack with them and I don't have to worry about it not being returned. The ice maker was a little over $100 and the bags are pretty inexpensive through a medical supply company (a lot cheaper than having to order the hot/cold packs).

$100 is a steal! What kind of ice maker do you use/where did you order from? Trying to be cost effective.

I have some cloth bags filled with rice that I will heat up for earaches or abdominal cramps - I rarely use them.

No heating pads/packs in my clinic. Heat in the hospital required an MD order.

I use rice filled socks that I heat up in the microwave and allow them to be used for 5-10 minutes in the clinic and then it's back to class.

Borg, you're a genius!!!
