Gift for Preceptor and unit?

Good morning!

Im wrapping up practicum, and I wanted to show my appreciation to my preceptor and the unit for being so welcoming and supportive of me during my time there.

I was thinking flowers, or buying lunch for them (little ceasars is cheap!), but that just seems a little meh.

What have you all done to show appreciation in a professional environment or what things have students done for you/your unit that your really appreciated?

When it comes to nurses, you can't go wrong with food.

Edible Arrangement?

I don't know if I could afford a big enough one for the unit! Those are really cute though!

When I went to school, I made a cheapy little thank you package for my preceptor and I think it's best to gear it to his/her personality. For example, my preceptor was really girly so I did a package with some cute nail polish, face masks, chapstick, and a candle with a thank you card.

as as for the unit, doughnuts are always a hit and I've seen some students do bagels and coffee as well. :)

donuts and decent coffee

Donuts sound great actually, and it's budget friendly!

I love the idea of a personalized basket. I've gotten to know her fairly well at this point, so I should be able to whip something nice together, I think.

Thank you for the ideas!!

You should also write a couple of thank you notes.

1. Write one to post on the bulletin board so that everyone can see it and feel included

2. Write a personal one to your preceptor

3. Write a professional sounding note to your preceptor's boss for her personnel file. That's the way to help her professionally. Make sure her boss knows what a great job she did -- and put it in writing so that it will be in her file when it is time for her annual performance evaluation. It might also help her to get a promotion or some other "perk" that she may want in the future.

Food is the best gift for your unit. I would bring a few different types of pizza: vegetarian and with meat.

for the preceptor, 20-30 dollars card for massage with a cute thank you note.

This is fantastic, thank you! I didn't even consider being able to help her professionally. Great idea!

A handwritten thank you card goes a long way. I did one for both my preceptor and the nurses, then included a coffee card for the preceptor and made brownies for everyone.

I gave my preceptor a handwritten thank you card along with a few small gifts. I also got bagels, donuts, and cookies for all the floor staff on my last day along with a general thank you card addressed to everyone. Everyone was very appreciative, and now as a nurse on the floor myself I can say food always seems to be appreciated lol

We had a wonderful practicum student on my unit once. Everyone adored her. On her last day, she got pizza for the unit and gave little gift bags to everyone who worked with her individually, there were 3 of us. They had little hand sanitizers, lotion and gum. It was so sweet. She probably spent about 40 dollars on everything total and we all really appreciated it.
