Gift for Preceptor and unit?

Good morning!

Im wrapping up practicum, and I wanted to show my appreciation to my preceptor and the unit for being so welcoming and supportive of me during my time there.

I was thinking flowers, or buying lunch for them (little ceasars is cheap!), but that just seems a little meh.

What have you all done to show appreciation in a professional environment or what things have students done for you/your unit that your really appreciated?

    I did a big basket full of snacks. It was a big hit and gone in like 2 seconds! I did individual/100 calorie packs of crackers, cookies, some nuts, fruit, granola bars and candy. It was easy to grab and go and they seemed to like it. Variety is key!

    You should also write a couple of thank you notes.

    1. Write one to post on the bulletin board so that everyone can see it and feel included

    2. Write a personal one to your preceptor

    3. Write a professional sounding note to your preceptor's boss for her personnel file. That's the way to help her professionally. Make sure her boss knows what a great job she did -- and put it in writing so that it will be in her file when it is time for her annual performance evaluation. It might also help her to get a promotion or some other "perk" that she may want in the future.

    As a preceptor, I've received thank you notes that I've kept with me forever. When we moved out of our house, I scanned them so I can keep them. (That and six generations of family photos.) They've meant a lot to me, and when I have the orientee from hell (which is rare) they remind me why I keep volunteering to precept.

    The post for the bulletin board will keep your name fresh in everyone's memory (in a positive way) when it's time for those new grad interviews, and the one for the boss is pure genius.

    My last orientee baked brownies and brought them to work on her last day -- greatly appreciated!

    Whatever you bring, please be sure it's enough for all shifts. Often day shift gets first "grab" and there are crumbs leftover for night shift. Everyone likes to feel included. Donuts and coffee are nice, pizza and sodas really good cause they keep for later shifts. Donuts get stale, coffee, cold.
