For all of you night nurses

Published

This question is directed to permanent night nurses. Do any of you have problems with mixing up words, you know what you are saying, but the right words don't come out? It drives me crazy.

Working the night shift just messes you up, period!

Ditto, but I still wouldn't change to days

:rotfl: one night one of the nurses was a tad confused and told me the kids and herself had barbrhu for desert... she mean't to say rhubarb

I always have trouble remembering names, lately. Not my residents names or names of people I know at this time, but names of people from my former job or actors names, etc. We have more problems trying to figure out whether to say "Good morning" or "Good night" after our shift is over. So lately we just say have a "good sleep".

I do it too. I think I lost about 1/3 of my brain power by going to nights.

Yep, and then there is that thing where you have a task in mind, go around the corner and then promptly forget whatever it was that you set out to do....

I do that too, Mother/baby/RN! I hate that!

My brother-in-law works nights driving an oil truck and he told me that he has trouble getting words out. He knows what he wants to say but gets tongue tied.

I have memory lapses, get really frustrated easily and have had a few emotional breakdowns at home.

I do things like that. I go rushing down the hall to the supply room or the med room to get something. Once there I forgot what it was I was in such a hurry to get. I have to stand there looking around to see if anything jars my memory. Once I remember, I always come out with, "Oh yeah, there it is!" and am delighted that at least I was able to remember. :uhoh21: The day I just cannot remember what I went running down the hall for, is the day I throw in the towel. Wait. TOWEL! "Oh yeah, there it is!" :uhoh3:

OMG too funny about forgetting things. After working a stretch I can't remember simple things like my PIN number for my voice mail. Sometimes I get really short tempered when I can't remember things.
