Favorite RN Position

Hi! I've been an RN for about 3 years. I've worked in med/surg most of that time but now am working in a cardiovascular lab. Its way less stressful but doesn't seem challenging enough for me. I was wondering if others had ideas for what nursing job they've really enjoyed.

Thanks!

I really enjoyed infusion therapy and vascular access.

My favorite is home care (private duty) pediatrics. That's why it's my specialty. í ½í¸

Float pool for is where it's at for me

CVI is my thing. I love anything cardiac.

Legal nurse consulting at this stage in my life. Awesome.

I've done pediatric home care, NICU and am currently a school nurse. NICU has been my favorite. I work as a full time school nurse because the schedule, in theory, seemed better for my family but I'm bored out of my mind! I'm going back to the NICU when this school year is over. Yes the schedule isn't as good but the work challenged me AND I didn't have to slog away for 40 hours a week for terrible pay.

ER, and physician office

ccu, cvicu, were other favorites

Flight nurse-hands down!

Seconded!

I loved working in the CVICU...I miss it. I also loved acute dialysis but the crazy schedule is a bit whack. Now I'm in a sedate informatics job and I like that too although I miss the crazy. The grass is always greener...

I could never see myself doing the same nursing job for more than a couple years. I find they are almost all very repetitive and tedious as you do the same thing over and over every day. I've gravitated to school nursing (for a break) and am looking to get in to more administrative type work which offers 'projects' to do, versus 'tasks.' Nursing is by and large a task-based profession, which is why people get burned out quickly. Having come from a career previously that was project based I didn't realize how tedious I would find the profession. The problems I got to solve in the ICU or ER were so straight forward and lacking in any complexity. As I've gotten older, I also found the more task based nursing jobs to be a real grind, coming to work every and having to work quickly to get xyz done. I like having some time to think through things and do long-term work, not just shift work.
