Failed my NCLEX

Hi all. I took my nclex for the first time about a month ago. I got all 265 questions. As soon as I walked out of the exam I knew I did not pass. Needless to say it has been a hard month. I am very disappointed in myself. I did very well in nursing school. I used Kaplan and felt that it was not helpful. I have been trying to study since I want to take the exam again soon. I have been using NCLEX RN mastery and an Nclex cheat sheet. I also use YouTube videos if I don't understand a rationale. I feel that I am stuck in a rut. I can't seem to focus on studying and want to just give up. I know I should not feel this way but it's been tough. Also, everyone at my job continues to ask me if I have taken my exam and when I plan on taking it. Ugh! I can't bring myself to say that I took it and failed!! I just have to get back on that horse!! I need to pass!!!

Hello,

Sorry to hear that you failed. I would suggest you use UWorld. It was pretty helpful for me in understanding rationales. I heard a lot of things of Kaplan not being helpful but also I heard it being helpful in some people. I have not really heard a bad thing about UWorld and all my friends have used it and passed the NCLEX. I also do suggest NCLEX RN mastery app (and I think I heard they have it online in a website now), I tried it and it helped but not as much as UWorld. Also, for the people who keep asking, I would just tell them that you took it and failed but plan on taking it ASAP. Maybe you can just say the study materials you had were not efficient in helping with the NCLEX. I hope the best for you!

Thank you for your input. I have also heard that Uworld is a great resource! I have been using the RN mastery app and I like it. I'm going to see if I can get Uworld. The price is just a little steep but if it will help me pass it's a small price to pay. Thank you for your well wishes!! í ½í¹‚

Good luck... Uworld is what most have recommended because it is the closest as far as difficulty to the actual NCLEX if not harder...

I'm taking my NCLEX in week. I feel so anxious. I had been using ATI and then I realized I was spending more time reading content that answering questions. So last minute, I switched to UWorld. I had already pushed my date back so I decided to keep my date, even though it only left with me with 2 weeks to finish Uworld. I don't think i will finish Uworld but it is similar to the NCLEX mastery app. If you can, buy the two tests that come from the nclex mastery app. Uworld also comes with two "predictor" exams.

Thank you! I'm most probably going to get Uworld.

Good luck! It's nerve wracking! Thank you for the input. I'll look for those exams!!

Go with UWorld. I felt it was the closest in design to the actual nclex.

Kaplan did not work for me, it focused too much on strategies instead of content..Uworld rocks for questions and content but if you need more content, Hurst is awesome

first and foremost, DONT GET DOWN ON YOURSELF!!! i know the smartest of the smartest who have failed and students who barely survived nursing school who passed the first time. NCLEX IS TOUGH! not just the test but the entire experience. you can do this! i took nclex in march and used kaplan as well. i did not find the actual in person class helpful at all. very confusing and kind of all over the place. however, the only thing i used to study was kaplans q bank questions. i literally would copy and past every single question with the rationales and then would continuously go back to review them. i would forget the answers after a few days so i found this really helpful :)

the fact that you survived nursing school is a huge accomplishment and you should be proud. you can do this :)

Wow!! Thank you so much!! Your words of encouragement are very much appreciated!! I have been using Nclex Mastery and I like it a lot. It definitely is tough but I know I will pass when I take it again. I already have it scheduled! Ahhh I'm nervous but ready to take it and pass!! Thank you again for your kind words!!! Hugs!!!

I agree that Kaplan wasn't helpful. I got UWorld one week before my exam, did as many questions as possible, and felt SO much more confident than I did after 2 months of Kaplan. I would get the 1 month subscription and do 75 questions (with remediation) per day until the date of your exam. You won't be disappointed! Best of luck to you!!

I can only suggest to you what I did as its the only experience I've had with nclex. I went down to the library a got every study guide they had and I used every online q bank I could find. I didn't pay for anything like u world or kaplan. I studied for 2 months intensely at least 5 to 6 hours a day until I started to think like nclex questions bc I did SO many. I passed with 75 questions in about 90 minutes. Of course I thought I failed but I didnt. Also when you're taking it don't panic. Keep calm and don't worry in the middle of the test about how you're doing. It won't help you at all. Read the question and you pick an answer. Try to justify why you like it and why you're discounting the other ones then pick it and move on. Also I had a study buddy for those 2 months. We would read questions and debate answers which I found helpful. She also passed her nclex in 90 questions and she took it the same week I did. Best to you!
