Ever been shocked during a code?

Nope. I hope that never happens to me or my co workers either. Did this happen to you?

This is why we call our "CLEAR" and look to see if everyone is clear.

Yes............YEARS ago and it wasn't pleasant. Needless to say, I learned my lesson.

Do you mean emotionally or physically shocked? By the looks of your emoticon it looks like it might have happened to you? Either way I am sure it has happened to someone before. I hope you will be OK.

No, it didnt happen to me... I shouldve been a little more specific. It happend to a co worker. I wasnt at work when it happend but heard about it and it got me thinking...kinda nervous...I was just wanting to hear stories, what happend..how you felt..what was it like? Just curious...lol, although never wanting to find out!!!!

I've never been shocked, nor have I seen anybody shocked (other than the pt!!). I've always considered it of utmost importance when in control of that particular button to MAKE SURE everybody is clear before shocking. You could actually kill a co-worker that way.

I got "shocked" by the pt's internal defibrillator a couple of times while giving CPR. It was just a buzz sort of thing, it didn't hurt, but it freaked me out the first time it happened!

Years ago I was a paramedic student the Paramedic Director decided to "help" precept a few students in the ER and he got shocked on the hand. Gave him a little burn and man was he ******! But he was a little faster the next time someone called Clear!

I got the giggles--couldn't of happened to a nicer guy. Karma got him...

yeah, have been in the room when a coworker was shocked by a stupid a#@ Dr. who did not call "clear"...she literally went flying backwards into a trashcan a few feet away.

Aye I have been shocked during a code many years ago. We were using defib pads and the ICU nurse controlling the defib forgot to yell clear. Well needless to say i was doing compressions and got thrown off the patient into the near by wall. It felt like a bolt of pain shot straight up my left arm and out my shoulder. Since that time I am ALWAYS mindful of where the defib pads are and where the person shocking is.. I NEVER want to feel that feeling again.

Five years ago while working night shift in a CCU, my post surgical pt had an R-onT and went into VF. As I started CPR, my partners grabbed the defib and decided to remove the hands-off pads and put the paddles on. They fumbled a little bit and I think I said something like: "can we shock him today" while i continued compressions. Finally, they got the gel pads on him and put the paddles in position. I was waiting my partner with the paddles to clear us when she abruptly moved her thumbs to shock him and i suddenly thought, "oh, God!" I jumped back and she did what I feared...shocked him without clearing us. I felt the jolt of 200 joules go up my right arm. I otherw sie was ok and got back into helping save the poor guy. Fortunately, everyone else who was touching him and/or the bed saw the same as I did and moved away. It took a few more shocks and a some meds before we got a perfusible rhythm back. Afterwards, we all approached her and chewed on her for forgetting to clear us. She adamantly said that she did...

I got shocked from an internal defibrillator while doing CPR. The first time it happened I almost pee'd my pants. It didn't hurt or anything though.
