ER stories

Anyone have any recommendations for good Emergency Care books? I have read Emergency! by Mark Brown, Rescue 471 by Peter Canning, and Intensive Care by Echo Heron. I prefer funny over sentimental, but some books have a great mix of both. Hoping someone might have suggestions...

Hmmm I read all those books too and can't think of any more :D

Hannah Alexander is a good author. Actually it's two authors. A husband and wife team, one a writer and the other I think an ER nurse. The books are Christian. The series that starts with "Second Opinion" is the most medical. The characters are an ER Dr. and nurse. Pretty good descriptions of ER and all the chaos intermixed with the drama of the characters' lives. Most books have a mystery going on too.

I read "Something for the Pain" by Paul Austin....it was really really good, I highly recommend it. In fact, I'm going to read it again. :)

Specializes in med/surg, emergency room.

I've read all those books but I also really like "Just here trying to save a few lives: Tales of LIfe and Death in the ER"", also "Trauma Junkie", they both are great. "Just here trying to save a few lives" is AWESOME!!

Specializes in Pediatrics, ER.

I second tales of life and death in the ER. I also love House of God.

Much appreciated! I will check all of those out!

I just started reading Trauma Junkie. Love it!

Trauma Junkie by Janice Hudson is totally Awesome. Best Emergency Medicine book I'v ever read....

Specializes in Emergency Dept, ICU.

You have to check out THE HOUSE OF GOD. Hilarious and sarcastic, although not about the ER, mainly about the residents' rounds through the whole hospital.

Specializes in ED staff.

Try the Echo Herron books. Marvelous!!

I am a medical/surgical nurse right now. How do I become a ER/ED nurse?
