Does your school require you to do work over the summer?

Mine does! Just when I thought I was free from schoolwork for at least 3 months, we were given a Kaplan review book and online course that has to be completed before we return in the fall. They're going to be tracking our progress over the summer and taking note of how much time we spending doing the reviews. It's of content we covered our junior year. I can see the benefit of doing this, it keeps the information fresh in my mind but...it's such a hard choice swim in the pool or crack open the review book? Choices choices! lol :D

My program goes summer quarter, which is bad in itself. Then we have about a month off in between summer and fall quarters. We have a lot of homework to complete in that 1 month off!! My brain needs a rest!

I would really hate to have my progress tracked.

They are doing NCLEX preparation. By having taken Kaplan course before last semester and doing their questions, your class will most likely pass NCLEX.

By the way, no, my school didn't require us to do anything like this.

yeah we have class

No, but I'm doing an extra externship (unfortunately not on a specialty floor), and an online critical care nursing course.

We have exams the first day of class - med math, pharmacology and skills check offs. We are also required to do a16 hours of volunteer work over the term of each semester, but it is accepted if done between semesters. It only makes sense to do it when class is not formally in session.

So yeah. We have homework over the summer and winter breaks both.

We have a summer semester course. So, yeah, we're doing work over the summer!

My school encouraged it as a time to relax and unwind. But it also offered an amazing internship if you wanted to.

Specializes in Emergency Dept. Trauma. Pediatrics.

Do you have a set amount you have to do?

We have a summer term. We have 3 weeks off between spring and summer terms. But, I will be studying over the break because we have our first HESI in early July and passing is a must or you cannot progress in the program.

Specializes in Perinatal.

Nope. We are off until the middle of August and our instructors specifically told us NOT to do anything school related and just to relax and enjoy our break ;)
