I honestly don;t know how a study like that could have been conducted. Everyone knows if they just asked us what we needed and really listened, they might actually be able to make us happy, but no one has ever asked.

I had a nursing supervisor tell me that nurses will never be happy with staffing.Period. She told me that studies have found that nurses will complain even if they have the staffing they think is safe. I've never heard of this and definitely disagree. Anyone ever heard of this study that was conducted?..................:uhoh21:

I could say that just with a common sense without any studys. Is humans ever 100% happy about anything.

People who make this kind of studys, are just given these jobs cos they are not able to work on the field, but they also have bills to pay, so someone has just given them something to do to feel important.

Seriously, who thinks that this was a important study? A result that no one of us couldn`t guess without reading it?

I'd say it's very possible. If morale is low because of crappy management, "safe" staffing levels are going to do very little to change that. Of course that probably didn't get mentioned in the "study".

Here is a link to the abstract to the most referred-to study on nurse job satisfaction, by Linda Aiken. This study's findings do not correlate with what your supervisor told you. She needs to relearn how to read and interpret research data. :icon_roll

I've never heard of such a study. There will be people who are chronically unhappy and complain in every field. Overall it seems nurses are happy with their jobs or more would be changing careers.

Am I always happy at work, Of course not. I run into things I don't like, families who are unreasonable, abusive patients, other staff that spends more time complaining than working. With all the options nursing offers, why is anyone unhappy? If your home life is stressed this comes out at work, if you have some internal strife it shows.

Sounds like the supervisor needs to move on.
