Do you shower when you get off work???

I'm just curious if those of you who have nurse-to-patient contact... Do you shower when you get home from work??

I'm kind of a freak when it comes to showering... I have to shower in the morning and then before bed each night... So I know once I start working in the field, I will be showering when I get home anyway, but I'm curious if I wasn't this way to begin with if I would still shower or not...

Just curious...

ALWAYS!!!!! I know the stuff I'm AWARE of that's on me; hardly wanna think about all the potential stuff that's on me. Can't imagine going to bed with all that on me and getting it all over the bed!

Shower as soon as I come home. I put surgery shoe covers on my shoes to drive home and take my shoes off outside the door. Then I put on gloves and take some clorox wipes to my shoes, put on new gloves and bring them inside. I have a special mat by the door where my work shoes lay. I also shampoo my car seat regularly and have clorox wipes in my car to wipe off the gear shift, steering wheel, door handle, etc. I also wipe the front door handle.

Usually I'm a morning shower person but there's no way on God's green earth that I'd get up at 0500 to take a shower. I'm lucky to get up as early as I do.

I've been accused by a doc to have OCD but I think he's full of it.

Hmmm... I always shower after work. I'm also one of those who keeps an extra pair of shoes in the car to change into so I don't spread germs to my car. I put my work shoes in a plastic bag

You all make me feel so much better!!!!!!! I thought I was the only germaphobe out there!! My family thinks I'm nuts, when I come home from work-- the scrubs come flying off and into a plastic garbage bag, then I jump in a nice hot hot shower and I break out the antibacterial soap, and I scrub and scrub until I feel clean, and then I do the hair....... I think you guys get the picture....... Thank god it's not just me,......

not usually. i tend to enjoy the Swamp Ass feeling, as does my fiance.

i find it a must to shower. i work in an ICU and deal with many contact precaution pts (MRSA, ect.). you can wear gowns, ect., but how well protected are you. i never get beyond the entry of my house before i have pretty much taken everything off and in the laundry and on the way to the shower. do as you wish, but always be on the caution.

:rotfl: For the longest time i thought my boyfriend coined that term! I have never heard it used before I met him. lmao.

I don't, I shower before work. In the ICU I never have more than 2 patients. I believe that my contact precautions, (when called for), work. So does excellent hand washing.

When I do get home, the first thing I do is a very thorough hand washing, surgeon scrub in style, up to my elbows.

Don't forget to wash your hair-I don't know how many times a day I push my hair up. It has to be putting germs in my hair, and then on my pillow, etc.

I'm a night shifter and all I want to do when I get home is go to bed!! I shower when I get up. I wash my hands regularly at work and, if needed, change scrubs

Me too! I am too tired to even eat anything, let alone take a shower before AND after work!

Depends on what kind of night I've had. If I'm sweaty and smell funky I'll shower. If I spent the night cleaning up vomit, I'll shower. Otherwise working in assisted living I'm not really exposed to many sick people.
