Do you know of any nurses that changed careers?

I have a friend that has worked in a factory for 10 years after quitting as an RN.

Yes, I know someone who couldn't work as a nurse anymore after her daughter died of cancer and went back to school for Social Work.

I also know someone who decided working with humans wasn't for her and went to Vet School.

I did work with a nurse for many years who used to talk frequently about leaving nursing to go work for the post office. She's still a nurse on the same floor though.

My real estate agent was an icu nurse.

My aunt was a nurse turned social worker.

One acquaintance of mine went from nursing to law. I think she's now an attorney in malpractice cases. One of the IT guys in my corporation was a former nurse, and he now deals mostly with project management.

I know a guy in med school who has about 8 years of experience in ED/Trauma/ICU who is in his second year of med school. I also deployed with an Army surgeon (now a vascular surgeon) who used to be an ICU nurse. My ex's stepmother was an RN for decades, but left it for real estate. Just a few examples off the top of my head!

I know several nurses who once were beauticians. I know a few beauticians who were nurses who quit to go to beauty school.

I know a woman who was a nurse, and a great nurse at that, who now drives a

school bus.

I know a guy in his early 50s who used to be a business owner, became a nurse for many years, and now sells real estate.

I worked with a nurse who left to go into furniture reupholstering.

Unfortunately not to many. I knew someone who went to work at home depot after there father passed away. I have known some that say they are but never do.

I know lots of nursing who left traditional bedside and went to work in various healthcare related careers in things like statistics, marketing, sales, product development/R&D, healthcare lobbying, etc.

I knew of someone that left nursing to teach middle school science.

I know a ICU RN who literally did it for two years, saved all her $ for med school and is now an ER physician. It was her game plan all along. She double majored in Nursing and Biology.

Others I know are now realtors, lawyer and a group home owner.
