Do you have to buy a stethoscope?

I had a meeting w/ one of the schools I was accepted to and they went over all I had to buy, but never said I needed a stethoscope. I was kind of looking forward to buying one!

Do nursing programs normally provide them to students?

Nope; I have never heard of that. I think I would check back with them and ask when you will need one.

Some do provide the stethoscope with their nursing supply kit. I had to buy one, along with scissors, forceps, pin light, shoes, etc.

Stethoscope was the first thing I couldn't wait to buy :roll

Good Luck!

Me too! I can't wait to buy one. I have no clue how to use it but I was hoping my best friend (she's a nurse) will teach me before I start classes!

We ordered ours (along with bandage scissors and clipboards) through our school's student nurse organization.

I hope we get to use our own. My mom bought me one for my birthday. She was in the hospital and saw some nurses wearing ultrascopes..she thought they were cute so she had one shipped to me. It is one of the best presents ever. She got me a purple one with a breast cancer ribbon and the neonatal attachment has a little stick figure nurse. The only problem is she had my name engraved on it with RN so I would have to put a little sticker over the RN part until I have earned my right to wear it proudly. It is very small though so it shouldn't be too hard to hide. I can't wait to use it!!

Yes, you will need one eventually. I bought the cheap school issued one 1st semester and a Littman the 2nd semester and in 3rd semester my littman goes w/ me everywhere at clinical.

GL! :)

If you got into NHTI you gotta get your own, actually I think that is pretty much the standard. Good Luck!

Swtooth, it was for St. Joseph's :)

LOL ok. I would by your own, even if they do give you one, which I am pretty sure they do not, it would problably be a cheaprer one. Go for the Littmann

yup, unless you want to try a paper towel tube......lol

get a decent one and have your name engraved/etched on it IMMEDIATELY

and attach something to that will make it obvious that it is yours....yes this is the voice of experience!!

nope. you have to provide for your own. be sure to get a good one

I would buy your own. Even if the school buys one for you it's most likely going to be a cheap one you can't hear anything out of.
