Do you always state that you are a nurse?

Curious....

If you accompany a family or friend for any kind of treatment do you state that you are a nurse? How about if you are getting treated?

I don't mention it. I don't want them to think I'm watching them, when I really am.. hahaha...

Specializes in Acute Care.

No, but I think nurses can spot each other a mile away. I had a family member hospitalized recently and within 20 minutes of being in the room I was asked if I was a nurse.

I don't mention it, but if I accompany my mom or brother to their appts, or anywhere else, they ALWAYS tell everyone what I do :) I know they're proud, so I try not to get too upset...

I've been asked three or four times now if I'm a pharmacist, when I'm a patient or with a friend or relative at a hospital. Nobody's ever asked if I'm a nurse. (Of course, I'm not, yet!).

It must be how I discuss medications...?
