i have to admit that i have not always been the best test taker. i was really nervous for the ati. i went into it without studying as i was told, even though i really wanted to. i came out with the possibility of passing the nclex with a 80 some percent chance, which isn't terrible but compared to others in the program it is. quite a few came out with 95-99% chance. i know that this means i have a lot more studying to do which of course i was planning on doing anyway. i am trying to stay positive but i am quite embarassed as we have to bring our scores with us to our next roles class and i really do not want to share my score with anyone. the worse thing was the director of the program went over my score with me and was disappointed and said "she would really like to see it higher" but expressed that my critical thinking, diagnosis, evaluation, synthesis, analysis were all very high and believes i should have no problem passing the nclex. i am really hoping the nclex goes well. i think i am more nervous now that i took the ati . i just needed to vent and put this out there.

I hate ATI. Sometimes I disagree with their choices hehe which prob isnt a good thing. We have to take it all along and everyone gets reallly bad grades like a 68% is passing! Ha.
I would take this as a motivator to study more. You have two options: worry and get nervous, or study what it told you to focus on. The latter is the only one that will help you pass NCLEX
80% is good :) Its hard when you are comparing to classmates though. I would feel similarly.
Good luck!

Who told you not to study for it?
We are encouraged to study, as the material presented at the beginning of the semester can be easily forgotten because it was so far away.
Remember that this is just an assessment, there should be a detailed summary that tells you in which areas you need to work on (e.g. assessment, interventions, pharmacology etc). In which areas did you do the worst?
This will help you guide your studying.
Good luck

The difference between my grades when I study and don't study can be an A compared to a D-. I HAVE to study- and when I do- I do excellent- if I don't...well- I might as well not take the test. The fact that you got an 80% without studying should be encouraging! Put some good study time on top of that 80% chance and you will pass with flying colors! Don't be so hard on yourself!

the director of the program said not to study so we could see the areas we would need to focus our studying on. which of course i knew i would do horrible on the mother baby section since that was over a year ago.

i do very, very well on the ati tests...b/c i study the ati books.
however, do not rely on them to help you on the nclex or use it as a guide on how well you will do...b/c i do not beleive ati is a good predictor.

Why were you told to take it without studying? That is just ridiculous! Everyone studies for the NCLEX....I studied for all my ATI tests and have gotten in the 90th or above percentile. Our teachers give us practice codes so we can take exams to give us an idea of what we need to study more of...I just don't understand why you would be told not to study.....but if you got an 80th percentile or level 2 or 3 WITHOUT studying....I would not be worrying. Besides, you can never know if those people that got in the 90s really didn't study....again...WHY would you be told to NOT study.....I could see maybe to see how you would do if you were to take the NCLEX today...but you are not going to take the NCLEX today...you are going to graduate then study for at least six week and then take the NCLEX...

This is a GREAT opportunity for you! You know, without studying, that you have an 80% chance of passing--that's great! Now you also know which areas you need to work on, and which areas you can just briefly review.
It sounds like your school is similar to mine, we used the ATI mostly as a guide to identify our strengths and weaknesses. And now you have one additional tool to help guide your studying for that vast wasteland that is the NCLEX!
This is only a POSTIVE opportunity for you. Use it.

What was your percentile score and Level of proficiency?? Those are more important that your actual percentage score. Which test was it?? Considering the national mean on a lot of these tests is in the 60s I would consider an 80% to be a pretty good score.
I just got an 88% on the pharm test and that put me in the 99th percentile and a level 3 proficiency with no focused review material. The national mean was 60!!
Don't be too hard on yourself you did fine.

You did awesomely, really. You should have seen the ATI scores that came out of my first semester class - they were terrible. Plus, as others have said, there's something that is very important about the results you did get.
This is a great chance for you to figure out where your strengths and weaknesses are, and pay attention to them while studying for the real deal, your NCLEX. Make your weaknesses work for you! Plan to study and really understand those parts more than you do now. :3

Don't forget its a percentile. 80% is really good and i'm sure if you compared to the national average you are very high.

Where do I find a book for ATI? I need to start to practice.
