The biggest one of these discounts is your cell phone company. Just about all the carriers have discounts for public service workers. I got a 15% TMobile discount just by showing my hospital ID.
They don't like to advertise these things, but you usually get it with no questions asked when you inquire about it.
My employer group has a 25% discount with ATT. Also we get a discount at the optical center on campus, Apple store on computers, they have a website where staff can download Free or nominal cost software (free anti-virus and free microsoft office). There are deals to be had, just do a little name dropping. I am NEVER ashamed to get a discount.
Happy Holidays to everyone.

This is not an advertisement for T-Mobile, but I used to be a sales leader for them. T-Mobile offers a lot of discounts depending on where you work, where you went to school, who you have insurance through... It is usually between 10% to 15%. Sometimes, they will offer waived activation fees etc. as well. They were trying to make a big push of that in store for a little while.

So I was doing some Christmas shopping for my wife the other day at New York and Company when I noticed a slip of paper by the register that said, "service occupation discount codes" and it listed Police, Fire, EMT, Teacher and Nurse. I asked the clerk, "I'm a nurse, do I get some kind of discount?" She had me show her proof (I happened to have my license in my wallet) and I got 15% off, ON TOP OF THE SALE PRICE!
I got to thinking, this wasn't even advertised, I happened to see this piece of paper that was codes for the employee to use on the register, I wonder if there are other places out there like this. Does anyone know??
