How beneficial is a BSN? If you have a BS in human physiology and are working on your MS in Neurophsyiology do you really need BSN or MSN? I want to go into nursing and be either an OR or ER RN.

If you ever want to go bryond floor nursing mt best advice would be to go with an ABSN course, it gives you more options.

There are LOTS of threads about this very subject, why don't you do a search.

I only found a couple related to my question. And they were hijacked and didnt have much information at all. I'm not asking about a BSN vs ADN. I want to know if or why I would need a BSN in addition to the BS in physiology I have. I'm also working on my MS in Neuro Physiology and as soon as I defend my thesis, I want to go into nursing and work in the ER or OR.

The person makes the nurse, not the degree...It's that simple...
I was in your boat, as I have a BS in psychology, and just wanted a nursing degree...But the waiting lists at the CColleges were soooo long, I got right into a private Christian university...
I would be the same nurse if I were educated at a CCollege (w/ different friends)
BUT...
I am a clinical instructor...THAT is the only difference...an ADN cannot (yet) be a clinical instructor
Hogan4736, do you work at a hospital in the Phx area? If so wich one?
Yes I agree with you 100% on the person and not the degree, my advanced degrees are for my personal satisfaction alone. While they give me a better understanding of the human body then most, it wont guarantee I'll be a better nurse.
Also did you go to GCU? If so how was there program?
I sent you a pm trainer

our clinical instructors have both ADN and BSN degrees, our classroom instrucots though must have MSN -so you can be a clinical instructor without BSN

maybe it's an Arizona BON thing (which is recent...until 3 years ago, clinical instructors in AZ HAD to be MSN level)
Where are you abby?
And for another debate: Can an ADN be a clinical instructor for a BSN program?

Some said that you can not be a clinical instructor if you have an ADN. I had an instructor that was an ADN and that was his only degree. I would have to say that I learned more from him than any other nurse I know.

If you want to be an OR or ER RN, then you need either an ADN or BSN. Neither of your other degrees will give you a nursing graduate degree or allow you to be able to sit/pass the NCLEX to get your RN credentials.

You can be an OR or ER Rn with an ADN, ASN, BSN, or MSN.
