what to do on days off

I am a young nurse (24 years old) and I work steady night shift. I was just wondering, if you are my age (or when you were my age), what do or did you do on your days off? Sometimes I feel like the entire universe is at work while I sit at home during the day and honestly, i get sorta bored. (married but have no kids) Would you recommend nights to someone my age?

I realize the solution would be to work day shift, but the day shift is so busy, hectic, and crazy, that I'd really rather not. Those nurses don't end up leaving until 9:30 pm anyhow!

So what do you do to occupy your time on your days off?!

Thanks!;)

I used the time alone to do things like housework and shopping.

I too am young, married and have no kids and I can think of lots of things to do.

Sleep in, go for a walk, go to the gym, read a good book, clean the house, take a nap, go shopping, have lunch with a friend.....the list goes on.

Good luck!

Pray, yes I pray that I don't lose my nursing license because of dangerous nurse/pt ratio.

I spend endless time on allnurses.com.

anything but housework

take a class that you don't have to take, art appreciation, computer stuff

volunteer with a dog rescue, yo can drop in when you feel like it there are a lot of things that improve mind and body ENJOY LIFE

Not a nurse yet, but I currently spend days off doing some volunteer work, spend time with family/friends, and training for a marathon in December.

Have you thought about maybe taking a class? How about joining a gym (everyone could use a little exercise every week to improve on health and to release stress)? Heck, maybe you could go back to pursue your masters or something!

sunneeRn...........just go enjoy being 24!! Before you know it babe..you won't be this young again! dont let life pass you by.you are not just a nurse.thats not ALL of you.........enjoy being young fit and healthy before the other stuff creeps in! ;) make the MOST of each precious moment.cram in what you can to life.........it sure is worth the effort! luck and hugs to you!

Here what I plan to do on my days off when I'm no longer in school.

Take photography, art, dance, and writing classes, shop, get a manicure and pedicure once month, work out on a regular routine, lay on the beach in the summer, decorate, go out to lunch with my friends, volunteer for habitat for humanity and maybe I'll get around to cleaning and laundry...;)

FAB plan!!!!!!!!!GO for it!!!!

Ugh... I'm a brand new nurse too, and you're right...day shift is insane. I'm contemplating going to nights. (I know nights can be insane too, but when I'm still charting at 9 or 10 p.m., I notice the phones, families and doctors are not as bad)

Of course, I'm quite a bit older than you, and have a home and family to take care of.

I love crazystudents' suggestions. I think I want to hang out with her!:lol2:

I stay out late going to see my favorite bands, sleep in, clean my house, go to Curves, walk the dog, shop, read books, watch the shows I dvr'd while I was working/sleeping, lots of time online; allnurses, googling the terms and conditions that I run into at work, other boards r/t music, looking for new music online...but yeah, I get bored too!

I joined the YMCA, worked out and swam on my days off. I scrapbook and make cards. Of course, there's always the dreaded cleaning.

Now that I live in a larger city with a wonderful (and huge) park, I go walking there during the day and sit with a book or my iPod looking out over the river. Use the time to find something that interests you. See if there are any classes you can take like pottery or learn a new language.
