controversial nursing issue topic help

Published

Hi Everyone,

I am a nursing student and I have an assignment to "investigate a controversial nursing issue that has at least 2 sides to it , cite literature, evp and reports to support your position. Explain in writing how effect the issue/resolution affect professional practice in the past, present, future. Address roles of the provider, coordinator, teacher, advocate and member of a profession as appropriate". I was wondering if any one has any ideas for a good topic? Maybe something that working rns see on the floor or a new practice that has been implemented in your hospital. I'm a student and don't have too much floor experience so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for your help,

Hourly rounding and the almighty 'god' that is patient satisfaction.

These are really great topics, the patient satisfaction one is extremely rich in information. There was a link to a study that equated increased patient satisfaction to decreased patient outcomes. Wish I could remember where I saw it, it would be quite topical.

Have you asked your college librarian to show you how to access the CINAHL? There are many such papers in the nursing literature that would give you both ideas AND (ta-da!) bibliographies for further investigation!

Mandatory staffing legislation -- how's that working out?

Levels of practice vs patient outcomes (Hint: Look up Linda Aiken's papers)

Unions -- nursing (like state nursing associations) or affiliating with others (Teamsters, SEIU...)

Insurance coverage for nursing care the way they cover OT/PT care, MD care, and other services

Freestanding nursing providers in advanced practice-- affiliations, supervision, or independence re MDs?

thank you everyone for the help I will begin my research and pick a topic.
