Coming in late with a weird question

Hey gang - It's been a heck of a month. I'm still not dug out yet and the precious few minutes that I did have to take a breather were spent focusing on working on papers for my masters. No joke there. Anyway.

Has Anyone ever dealt with children of parents that claim they are sovereign citizens? I have that going on right now and while it seems they are giving the main office more issues than they are giving me, I can see where the issues are going to come in. I still have a license to protect and I still have a procedure to follow, despite how you may live your life. Anyone have any input?

No advice here, just curiosity.

What's a sovereign citizen (in the US?), and how how is that supposed to be different from any other citizen?

No, but *flying tackle hug*!!!

Basically, they are citizens that don't recognize most laws.

Ok.... just googled that.

I would (cause I'm petty) suggest that since they aren't US citizens (eye roll), they are here illegally. They and their children should be detained and held in detention centers since they can't be deported.

1) FLARE!!!!! I feel like we've known each other for ever - ok, not really. But I know you were here way back when I first got to this board in 2008. :) I second Farawyn's *flying tackle hug*.

2) (please excuse my eye roll) No advice, just smile. If they are bucking you on Imms, have them sign a religious waver (if your state allows).

3) come back and keep us posted.

Also, if they are "sovereign citizens" why are their kids in school.

I would think you would still be able to enforce the illness policies - you can't have a sick child at school??? Keep us posted - sounds like there could be alot of drama :)

The way I see it, they don't recognize our laws...great, fine, and dandy. BUT! And there's a big but! I recognize and follow the laws and so does the school. They don't get to dictate that. They control themselves and themselves only. So they can either produce the needed paperwork and have their kiddo in a class room all day or they can refuse and I'll send their kiddo home (or they can chill in the office all day). Whatevs. But just because they choose not to recognize our laws doesn't mean we (as the school) get (or want) that choice so if they want their kid in public school, they need to be prepared to play the game.

Sovereign citizens annoy the mess out of me....Mr. Keeper is a police officer so he's had some run-ins with some local ones around us and I have no patience for them!

Beat me too it!! Flare how are ya???

I used to work with a lot of them. We called them inmates.

bahahahahaha :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

I'd likely use the word "policy." Sure, you may not obey laws, but for your child to be a student at this school, you must comply with our policy regardless of your citizen status. If you cannot, you are welcome to enroll your child elsewhere.

(Of course, easier said-than-done with a public school, but maybe it would work for discussion?)
