College Network

Nursing Students Online Learning

Hey everyone; I am very disturbed about my experience with the College Network and want some suggestions/advice from anyone who can help me. I was told that my credits from my previous school would be accepted through College Network and all I would have to take would be the nursing concepts exam. This turned out to be a complete lie, because they did not take several of my courses which were taken within the last 2 years at an accreditted college and now they are wanting me to retake those classes through them and of course bill me for additional modules. I told them that I was tricked into signing the contract and I wanted out because I do not intend to take those courses again and pay doubly for them. What is your suggestion or advice in getting out of this contract. Since the last conversation I had with them, I have re-enrolled into the same college and have been accepted into their nursing program, so I really need to get out of this contract. Please forward any suggestions that you may have on how to go about this.

You said "I was told..." Does that mean you are basing the desire to get out of the contract on he said/she said with the recruiter? Not gonna work. Do you have something in black and white in the contract that they did not fulfill as specified? If so then ask a lawyer, if not then you're gonna have to eat it and chock it up to a life lesson.

P.S. TCN can't accept or refuse to accept credits. That's up to Excelsior so your beef is with them if the credits don't transfer.

You need a lawyer.

did you not realize that tcn was not a college but a publishing company? the only ones that can tell you if you can transfer your courses is excelsior. that is why i don't like these type companies they make people think they approve courses and give credit. another thing is if you did go back and re-take these courses it will not be through them. you will either have to take a clep test or go through excelsior. as for the contract .. you are stuck . unless you cancel in accordance with the 3 day clasue they have you. i will admit that i fell for this about 4 years ago . i was lead to beleive that this was a college and they grant degrees. when i found that out that was all she wrote...i refused to pay another dime. my personal opinion is and some may not agree, but these salesman have no care nor concern for you education. bottom line they want your deposit and signature.

There have been many threads about this same issue over the years I've participated on this site, and I don't recall ever seeing anything about anyone being successful in getting out of the contract. I'm sure that TCN paid its legal counsel well to be sure the contract forms benefit them and cannot easily be broken (if at all!).

The thing with TCN contracts is that it's not like a contract for service. It's financing a product. You receive your product (the modules) fairly quickly so once you've received them you would essentially have to talk them into taking back a product that the majority of the time has been opened. First off, it's difficult to return a book even at Barnes and Noble because people try to "rent" them. I can't imagine how many people would try to do that with TCN modules at $500 a piece if they were allowed to return them/cancel the contract.

I believe that there are probably a lot of recruiters who try to pressure people into signing but you do need to be proactive in what you get yourself into and you can't really blame TCN for not taking back used modules and letting you out of the financing, yk? It's frustrating when your on the other end but I wouldn't necessarily call it unfair. Just my :twocents: worth.

If you feel you were misled in the recruiting meetings then perhaps a lawyer is in order. If enough people feel that way then a class action suit would probably work wonders in stopping that particular behavior from the recruiters.

:yeah::yeah: glad to know i am not the only one that thinks this way!

they almost got me too, but after the salesman left my house, i went over the contract and read all the tiny print at the bottom and back of the contract and cancelled the very next day.

i was lucky that i found all this out before the 3 day grace period was over and i never heard a word from them!

now i tell most of my friends not to fall for it, but a couple have and then later said they wished they had listened.

so each to thier own and what works best, but please do your homework and search out the facts along with the pros/cons!

Thank you all so very much for your responses. I was told by the TCN rep that Excelsior will not accept my credits, so either way, yes I AM STUCK! I will be trying to get an attorney to handle this. Of the 7 modules that I received from them 5 of them are unopened. I will definitely adhere to your advice and return those 5 to see what happens, if they credit me or not. Anyway, thanks again. Question: Since they did not run my credit for this contract, should I breach it would they still be able to place the balance on my credit report?

Don't breach it!! They can (and likely will) take you to court and yes it will be on your credit report if you don't pay. They did not breach anything in the contract they made with you so you are liable for the remainder of the balance. No I wouldn't return the modules to them without them saying it's ok. What may happen is they keep the modules and still hold you to your contract. Get an attorney but know that most likely you are stuck with paying off the balance. Claiming that you were told something verbally and having nothing in writing backing that up won't get your far in court.

I agree -- I wouldn't send anything back to them, unless it's as part of them releasing you from the contract. You're probably going to be stuck owing them what you agreed to initially, so you might as well keep all the stuff and maybe you can sell it on eBay or something, and get some of your money back ...

Have you checked with Excelsior about whether or not they'll accept your credits? Seems to me that TCN is not in a position to ASSUME what EC will do one way or the other. I'd called an EC advisor and explain what's going on. EC is usually great about accepting credits.
