Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone here is a member of this nursing organization? If you are, I would love to know more about it and what has your experience with them been like. Thanks.

Sororities and Fraternities STINK!!!!!!! Even if they are academic in origin, they still and are elitist unless you are one of the beautiful people!

The best sorority or fraternal org to join in healthcare is to be one of the people who comes to work, does their job, and gives their absolute best to the patient.

Wow, I wasn't expecting such a negative reply, especially from those who really don't seem to know about it. Since I've posted, I researched a little more. It's a PROFESSIONAL organization for registered nurses and nursing students. It's not a MTV "Sorority/Fraternity Life" if that's what you were thinking. I don't know what your experiences have been, but any PROFESSIONAL organization which aims to do positive things in the community related to healthcare cannot "suck" as stated. And as a professional in any career, learning new ways to expand in your field is great too. Of course going to work, doing my job and giving my patients the absolute best of my abilities is the standard, but don't knock me because I'm inquiring about something not known to you. We all have our own opinions, but really, voicing your ignorance? Once again, if anyone has had any EXPERIENCE with this organization, please feel free to contact me. Thanks.

I thought the nursing sorority was Sigma something Tau something...whatever. You can see how mcuh they really matter just by the initial posts. Perhaps this org. would be helpful in an academic or political (ANA) setting? It wont; do a thing for you on the units......not flaming, just stating facts.

Just curious, are all nursing organizations looked down upon on this board? Such as the NSNA, ANA,etc? Or is it because I happened to mention one with Greek letters that has some in a tizzy? I don't get it, but whatever. The tone of this thread is so negative for no reason, so i'll end it here. I remember now, why I "lurk" and hardly post. To each his own. Sorry for any disruption of this board that this topic may have caused.

By the way, Sigma Theta Tau is a nursing honor society.

Thank you, P_RN, for your reply. I appreciate it.

When I was in my senior year in nursing school, some of the members of Chi Eta Phi served as mentors for our class. My mentor was a retired ET nurse and she was very encouraging and supportive. I am sorry that I did not keep in contact with her or the others as I now realize what a wonderful thing they did for us.

Yes, but these people are for the most part, completely nonexistant---I know of no-one in my workplace and I am including ALL managment, admin. etc, that is a part of these. Sorry about the mix up re: sigma theta tau, but the last time I ever heard of it was 20 years ago in college! Perhaps if you explain their purpose (and please don't say "furthering nursing"--HOW, WHY etc.) and their benefit to the entire profession (inclucing us foot soldiers--hosp. RN's), the heat in the thread would go down. At present, I am an unbeliever--I'm open to conversion.
