Chamberlain FNP program

Hi Kathleen,

I am currently looking into NP online programs and Chamberlain, Frontier, and Kaplan are high on my list. After reading your post it appears that Chamberlain is a good choice. Is there any other pointers or tips you can throw my way??? Like how much actual time per week do you dedicate to each class, are you able to work full-time, was it difficult to complete 2 classes at a time, etc. I know school is a big commitment so I like to have a good idea of what I am getting myself into.

Hi Lori,

I can answer anything you'd like. It's a big deal to go back to school. For the first time I am taking two classes. I will not be done that next session. I work full time an found it hard to do the two classes. I do school work less than six hours a week, now that I have the procedures down. It took me awhile. Bit I started in January and it has been eight months and I can say I have less than two years left. Let me know if there is anything else I can answer. Kathleen

I totally understand that working full time is not an option the further you get into the program requirements.

Have you started your clinical rotations yet???? I assume from all of the other posts that it is difficult to work full time while committing to the required clinical hours. Also can you elaborate on your comment of "having the procedures down"??? What does that entail?? I am so analytical and want to dissect all details before committing to an FNP program. I guess my bottom line is do you like the program and are you satisfied so far with the educational experience?

sorry a little late on the response. I have completed 5 course so far with no issues. I start clinicals in July of next year. Can wait all this busy work with basics of nursing and papers. This is what I meant by procedures, I probably should of used processes. Ie Sunday starts your ability to start to post on discussions. 2 discussions done each week. On the topic of the course give for you to research and discussion in threads. These must be completed by Wednesday. Papers you write seem to be on the 2 or 3 week then the 4 and 6 or 7 week of classes. The thing I found hard is that each instructor of course is different so you have to adjust to their ways. Some are very strict in what they want others are very laid back. The best part is you have them for 8 weeks and then you move on to the next class. No staleness of the course. I'm having a good time with the courses, no group projects and if I don't understand what they are asking I ask and get a response! Keep the questions coming, it's a big decision. I like that I can say that I have completed 5 courses in 8 months. I also am on line with a group that are all over the US and one is pregnant and will be off for a session or two to take care of the baby. Not a semester, just more appealing to my life! Kathleen

I started the FNP program at Chamberlain in January and have since transferred out to Resurrection University (I live in Chicago). I think you need to assess what type of learning environment you do best in. Personally, a few online classes don't bother me but I learn by bouncing my ideas off of others and felt I would get this in an in-class environment. If you do well with online learning and enjoy it, you will be fine. The Chamberlain program was very manageable with working full-time, I took three classes, got all A's, and did not feel overwhelmed at all. However, I felt that having to find our own clinical sites would leave me unprepared to sit and take a board exam. I'm starting Resurrection's program in September!

Did you guys get a phone call or a letter saying that you were accepted? I applied for the 10-27 start but put my application in August 6th through the nursing CAS just wondering how long it takes to get that phone call or letter!!
