CCRI Nursing Program

U.S.A. Rhode Island

Published

Hello everyone. my name is Desiree

Its my first Thread post. I recently passed my GED in April, I have been a CNA since 2007. I have 2 babies, and I plan to go to school for Nursing. I applied to CCRI, and I have my Accuplacer June 24th.

What would come next? Would it be possible for me to get into the Nursing Program this year, or would I have to wait until next year. I also originally applied for a different program but I was still a little confused its also in Health care, would it be a big deal to change it?

Is CCRI a good place to start?

I was thinking of going into Oncology after I become an RN I know there are many specialties.

Any advice for a -almost- Nursing Student? Anything I should read, or know?

How about the Math, how hard is that? I have been doing studying for the Accuplacer, I need to sharpen my no so much math skills.

Thank you

Hello Desiree.

Welcome to the boards. There is a lot of information on here, and it's a great place.

CCRI has an excellent nursing program (I just finished my first semester and start Nursing II in the fall). There are several prerequisites you will need to take at CCRI before you can actually apply for the nursing program. They include Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Dosage Calculations...there are others listed on the CCRI website. You need to take all those classes and pass them with the required grades before you apply to the program.

There shouldn't be a problem with switching which program you want to go into. You just fill out the proper paperwork with admissions.

The math isn't too difficult, it's mostly basic stuff. There is a "math" class you have to take as a prerequisite, it's "Dosage Calculations for Med Administration"

I've been going to CCRI for 3 years now and I'm more than happy to answer any other questions about the program or CCRI!

i am a current student at CCRI. my actual major is "general studies". i want to change it for "nurse" but i am afraid to do it because my math skills are not that good. i understand some math but i can't deal with trigonometry and stuff. i really want to become a nurse but i am stock with math. i am a freshman at CCRI and i need some help, for instance i would like to know what kind of math do i have to take? what's the average difficulty?

i am sorry for not answer the question posted by mom02895. i appreciate if someone answers mine, thank you

Ana4 - Trigonometry is not necessary for Nursing. You should know your basics in math. The only math courses required (I believe) is Math 0500 (if tested into) and Dosage Calc. You should switch your major over to Nursing and start the pre-reqs for that immediately. The nursing math is really basic and not that difficult, You just have to know how to set up equations.

I finally got my instructor assignment. ------ at CCRI Flanagan Campus. Does anyone know him?

Thanks for any input.

thank you.

I tested into the Math 0500 and English 0890. But the advisors are all over the place with their answers to this question. Am I able to retake the accuplacer? I guess you need a 75 to take Health 1000, I got a 71. So I would need to retake that, right? The English wouldn't count as that going toward Health 1000? And if I have taken everything except Health 1000 and Dosage, and I take those in the Spring, technically, can I apply for the Fall semester in February? Since I'd be done with everything before the Fall?

I'm not really sure what your question is. I have never heard of people re-taking an accuplacer. This is what they use to place you in your english and math classes. In order to apply to the nursing program, you have to have all pre-requisites completed prior to applying.

The pre-requisites are Composition 1, a social science or humanities elective, Intro to Health, Dosage calculation for med administration, human anatomy, human physiology and microbiology with the minimum posted grades. You also have to take the TEAS test. You can find the college catalog information here with the minimum requirements for applying. http://ccri.edu/catalog/pdfs/health/ps-nurs.pdf

Also receiving the minimum grades will not guarantee acceptance. There is a preformance based application process. You can find it here. http://ccri.edu/dean-hrs/NURS1.pdf

I am thinking if you have to take pre-requisites prior to the nursing pre-requisites, this will probally take you 3-4 semesters to complete all requirements before you can apply. If you go through the summer you can minimize the time. The science classes are extremely time consuming, and you can only take one at a time as they are all pre-requisites for each other. They also fill up fast, so make sure you sign up right away. Also ask around, there are some teachers that are very good and others who are not...

I was lucky enough to get in my first time applying to the program and i start Fall 2012. Good luck. :)

I don't think you can retake the accuplacer. You will need to take the math 0500 class prior to taking the dosage and into to health. When all classes are completed you can apply.

You cannot apply until all required courses are complete. If you are still taking a required course in the spring you cannot apply in Feb and will probably have to wait until the next Feb to apply as classes are usually filled in the first round of the application period. Of course you can always save yourself some time and apply in August for a Campus that starts Nurs 1010 in January. Good Luck!! I am going into ADNU 2040 this Fall and am bracing myself for the challenge as this program is not easy. Study hard and prepare for a lot of clinical work in addition to the theory portion of the course. Stay positive and remember its okay to score lower than you have in the past as long as you stay above the minimums. It takes a bit to get the hang of the style in which they ask the questions. Once you get use to the format the tests become much easier. Don't freeze up and remember to read the question and ask yourself what its really asking you and you can't go wrong. Each semester is different so you will have to adapt but if you are smart enough to get in than you are smart enough to successfully complete the program. Thankfully they got rid of the waiting list so good students have a chance to get right in without fear of being waitlisted behind students who just hit the minimums. Good luck, Future Nurses!

can anyone tell me what there grades were and how many points they had when they applied to the nursing program?? I have 173.1 so I dont think I'm going to get in this round. Any input??!

I'm currently taking my prequesites for nursing and I got a B in Composition. Did you ever get in with a score of 173.1? I'm currently taking Psychology and i'm afraid I may not get an A.
