appropriate interview attire

Published

Hi guys,

I'm just wondering what everyone thinks is appropriate interview attire for male... suit? khakis, nice shirt, tie, blazer? khakis with a nice shirt and tie? I know how important it is to be professional and I don't want to disrespect anyone. My initial reaction would be to wear a suit to an interview, but I can't quite picture myself walking into the ED in a suit. What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

I just interviewed for a CNA job at a local hospital. I wore dress pants, a dress shirt and a nice tie. I also wore dress shoes that i freshly polished. Regardless of the job you are applying for, I think that putting your best foot forward and making a strong first impression lets the employer know you are taking the process seriously and therefore will take your job seriously. I don't think you can over dress for a job interview unless you show up in a top hat and tails :)

suit. Always be more dressed (business professional, not casual) than the interviewer - suit and tie. I just went on an interview and wore slacks/jacket - felt so stupid and uncomfortable, but I had a person ask me where Radiology was, so I must've looked professional! You want to get the job, so look as serious as you are to have that job.

I can't imagine ever losing points for looking too well dressed. It would be easy lose points for not dressing well enough. That's just my thought. If it were up to me jeans and sneakers would be considered formal attire (here in NM they usually are).

I would say I have never had a problem with an interview looking the part. If there is a question reguarding what type of dress attire you will be wearing for your job dress in a suit (for instance school nurse occupational nurse ect.) however as a floor nurse, I think a pair of nice looking scrubs works just as well. Always come prepared and do your research on your hospital you are applying to. Know pertinent statistics and what demographics they serve, when they ask "What do you know about this facility?" be honest and tell them what you learned.

Any thoughts?

I would never wear scrubs to an interview unless I had already communicated to the interviewer that I was coming directly from work and had no other choice (even in that situation, though, I've stopped and changed clothes in the car in the past rather than show up for an interview in what I wore to work :)).

Overdressed is always better than underdressed for an interview. I would go with the suit, definitely.

I've only had one interview and had NEVER worn a suit before. When I finally got my license, I bought a suit. I had to look on the internet to see how to tie a tie the night before the interview. Monday morning I looked in the mirror and it looked like my head on a banker's body. The job was for a nurse intern to get in the door as they only hire new grads that are already in their employ. I got the job-woohoo! I agree with the people that state that it's better to be overdressed. Good Luck on the job search.

I will wear a suit to my first interview for a RN position. I come from a business/sales background. A professional, clean and well dressed presentation is always the best option IMO.

Good Luck

i have a CNA job interview tomorrow, this is my FIRST job interview ever. & im confused of what to wear. whether just a button up with jeans, members only jacket, & dress shoes that my friend suggested. OR just go for the slacks, dress shoes, & button up that my sister suggested -.- HELP.!! which one is more appropriate, presentable, & serious?

I've always stuck with nice pants (something tan, brown, or blue....Never jeans), a button-down shirt (tucked in) and casual or semi-dress leather shoes. If I want to add extra, I'd wear a tie.

This question just won't die. Wear a suit and tie. The more seriously you take this interview, the more seriously they will take you.
