Another job??

Am I the only one looking at job openings? I don’t know that I really want another job, and my district is paying us, but I keep finding myself looking at LinkedIn job openings.

Specializes in ICU/community health/school nursing.

Guilty. I've only been with the district for two years so I have limited tenure. I am not sure what will happen next year - I am sure we'll be in school but I am not sure how the budget hit will be mitigated.

I have been too. The plan is for my school district to go back May 1st, but I doubt that will happen. I have a feeling my Summer camp I am signed up to work at will be cancelled too. So, I am a looking at more than 4 months without working.

Guilty ?‍♀️, just so much uncertainty is making me ancy

Yes, though I admit that I am always on indeed and school Spring because I also love sending job openings to friends who I know are looking ? But, I am also a bit concerned b/c my new job this year is actually part of a grant in our state and and everything has come to a screeching halt - I have no idea if they will continue this grant so I may be looking for a new job for next year. It would suck b/c I love what I am doing but I guess I have to be patient and see how it all plays out.

I am. We are out until the fall, but I have wanted to start PRN at our local hospital for a while...so what better time. I miss hospital nursing.

My school is actually sending out contracts for next year starting this week to help with job security worries. We are still getting raises, but they are 2-2.5% compared to the 4-5% we were hoping - one of the cuts planned. They have planned for the worst with focus on retaining staff and still providing for students. (I sit a committee at school that talks budget.)

But I'm grateful. I'm mean, I'll feel better when I actually receive and sign the contract, of course.

WOW!. If I had any ICU experience...

I'm volunteering with the one of the local board of health by where I live. Because I just wanted to do something more.

Yes, I've been getting emails & phone calls. Chicago area hospitals are paying $70-75/hr for temp ICU nurses.

Specializes in school nursing, ortho, trauma.

I haven;t been looking for another job. I'm getting paid -technically, I'm on the clock from 9-3 each day. I have to admit - I haven't been seeking opportunities to lend my nursing skills here in NJ (which it's bad here) either. My husband works in a correctional facility and does not have the option of staying home with our kid. He has to report every day. I feel like I can't risk getting him sick (or anyone else ) in a volunteer nurse position. I feel guilty about it. I am still responding with the fire department, as I don't mind leaving little flare for a little while, but I can't see leaving her all day, and having a family member watch her is not a great idea RN.

Same here. We're working 9-3, and honestly, my case management for 504's and the amount of new IEP health histories I have to collect is keeping me relatively busy. I'm a single parent, so I definitely can't look for another job, but at the same time, I feel guilty about it. My daughter and I did make some cloth masks that are like sleeves for the disposable ones, to extend the life of them. We donated them to the hospital where I used to work. I can't help but feel guilty, but like you, I don't want to leave my kiddo home alone.

All of that said, I'm sure my Summer camp job will not hold up, and I do count on that income. So I'm worried. But I definitely don't mind being home for now. I don't mind e-learning/homeschooling for my child. I do mind Zoom/Google meets meetings. I look like Jabba the Hut no matter where I put the laptop, and am not loving trying to handle confidential info this way. Oh well. At least it justifies my paycheck at this point.
