Another job??
I have been too. The plan is for my school district to go back May 1st, but I doubt that will happen. I have a feeling my Summer camp I am signed up to work at will be cancelled too. So, I am a looking at more than 4 months without working.

Why so long
I actually had this happen this week. Had a student with a 103 degree fever. I am sure it was strep throat. I called and left messages for 2 hours. Could not reach any of the other contacts listed. So I contacted the resource officer and he stopped by. Turned out mom had her phone turned off....awesome!

Incident Reports
Are students sent to you merely for an incident report to be filled out? I keep getting students who are typically a target of a bullying incident, have no actual injury, but are sent to me to "have it documented." I will put a note in my standard charting system. But I do not feel like I should be the one to do the incident mainly because I did not see it. I was told I need to be doing incident reports in this situation. Does anyone else this issue?

Are you serious??????
I get a lot of the loose teeth that teachers send down to my office. I mean come on! What do they think we are going to do? I had one today...I ask what are you missing right now. She replies oh just math class. Why would the teacher send her down during something so important? I feel like there is no common sense here.

Are you serious??????
I find the teachers are really biggest problem with the amount of flow into the clinic. The teachers in my school send students down for every reason under the sun many not medical. Any prek or K that is having a behavioral issue the teachers insist they have a temperature check. A child is tired because he did not sleep well last night, go to the nurse. The problem with that is I only have about 2 spots they can rest. I need those for actual kids who are sick. I had a student come down today because he a pencil mark on his face. He made a comment on why he teacher didn't just send him to the bathroom.

New School Nurse Feeling Overwhelmed...
Hello! Yes I am with you. I am a new school nurse and it's very overwhelming. The school has over 900 kids. I had no orientation other than a few minutes with my nursing director and the secretaries that are constantly telling me what I am doing wrong. The teachers send me kids just because they seem to be causing problems in class but maybe not anything physically wrong? I am just doing my best to stay above water. I have confidence in my nursing judgement and you should too! Mostly likely you are the only medical professional in the building and that should be respected. When parents or teachers push back just say "well in my nursing experience..." because they don't have your experience and that's why they are not in your position. If you experience something new don't be afraid or just," that is something new to me. Can you given me some direction about what you would like." It's a new position for you and no one can expect you to know everything.
