allnurses Positive Thread

  • Experts

It seems that some threads here on allnurses get a lot of attention tend to being  negative, whether they be about professional or personality problems.

So, hey- this thread is aimed at the positive attributes of the allnurses' website, anything past or present.

I have oft stated that allnurses is my favorite website and one of the reasons is that it that's because it focuses on the career of my calling, which was nursing. In being associated with allnurses for over a decade, I have felt closeness, camaraderie, and a kind of kinship with my virtual colleagues. I have learned lots of techy stuff and have been exposed to alternative viewpoints the like I had not previously considered.

allnurses also allows me to communicate and express myself in a way that utilizes my bliss, which is art. Loading up images has much improved since the upgrade of December '19. Before the upgrade, if I noticed a typo or an area on which I wanted to improve on an uploaded image, I'd have to ask a mod or administrator to delete the old image and upload the edited one. sirI, among others, were always amicable in performing this task for me

Since the upgrade, I can now delete the old image and load up an edited one all. by. myself!

And even when I was working full time at Rightway (I want to stay positive!) Regional Medical Center, I visited allnurses at least once daily.

Soooooo.... what do you think are some of the positive attributes of the allnurses' website- anything past or present?

I really like the difference of opinions! People tend to be more honest when anonymous. It works for me because I never share anything with anyone but I feel comfortable letting people in my life and knowing it can't be used against me.

I like the variety of articles especially since I have relegated myself to Psych and Sub Abuse mostly. I also like that people share similar views to my own again because I don't share, it becomes difficult to get feedback from others.

It's actually very freeing and I look forward to doing something other than reading, except when I am working of course. I tend to go out and have a few pints, if I am not at my parents being fed by mother or at my older sister who doesn't feed me, but I get to play with my nephew and nieces.

Yeah, I like allnurses ??

And opinions are ubiquitous, yet not always benevolent, as microbes, aye Curious?

Seriously, opposing viewpoints challenge my own, and those not carved in concrete are always open for consideration. Those carved in concrete can weather whatever is thrown at them, and I usually have no desire to sway another's opinions to mine.

If we are comfortable in our own beliefs, that's just where we all want to be.

Have a pint on me next time, Curious!

Well I think with the anonymity, it allows people to clarify their opinions better and you are not distracted by extraneous things like looks, smells etc. I'm a reader, so I find the written word easier.

Different opinions challenges your own thought processes especially if they are structured and logical. It expands my horizons.

And expanding one's horizons is another way of saying heightening one's consciousness as the result of an illuminating revelation.

Plus tax.

It's a space for thinking.

It's a study in human nature,  including one's own thoughts and beliefs.

I like hearing about a variety of healthcare-related situations around the country and seeing how others process them. Since it's organized around our profession the information becomes useful in a way that is different than consuming the news/news sources. It has helped me figure out some things, see a bigger picture and put some stuff into perspective. Which has been personally important. I have made some positive decisions that I am pleased with and am not sure I otherwise would have.

I guess...one can practically figure out life, right here...if one is so inclined. ?

There are also fun, smart, interesting and kind people. You can learn something from everyone.

You gave my Right Brain such a rush with the above quoted lines, JKL, that my Left Brain I had to say, "FOCUS!" in order to read the remainder of your post.

My Right Brain started hyperverabally saying I-can-see-a-space-for-thinking-in-nature-where-thoughts-and-beliefs-roam-and-the-sky-is-not-cloudy-all-day- - - -

And that is one of the cheif reasons that allnurses is my favorite website! allnurses members are a virtual motherload for artistic inspiration. I am a member of other websites, but even a website filled with cartoon comic artist don't inspire me in the ways the way allnurses members do.

(Cue in Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better".)

You said some really heavy things there, JKL, and I'm not speaking molecularly: "I guess...one can practically figure out life, right here...if one is so inclined. ?

Yes.

I was just thinking this morning how allnurses is a community-andatowncameintomineadcanstudyitasifweweresociologistsandallsortsofartideaspoppedintomymind...

Sorry. Right Brain overload.

I always find your responses to be very well articulated and balanced. I am glad that you find value in the board as well, I know that I look towards your answers to help me grow.

@JBMmom: And I just came from reading a great topic of yours in a specialty forum when I came back and read your compliment above. So...ditto. ??

I really love the camaraderie, fellowship, and commiseration that I find on AN.  Many members have given me sage advice or some much needed laughs when I was gloomy or stuck in a bad place mentally.  Special mention here to the ubiquitous Davey Do, who is always available with his tag line "Overcome fear by seeing the funny yet ridiculous side of every situation". -Edgar Cayce.  Davey Do, you've made a difference to me and I'm sure, many others:)  Could you please repost the classic cartoon of the nurse sitting in her car at her workplace, banging her head on the steering wheel?

Wow. I am truly moved, morelostthanfound!

To give it back to you, I have found that I can and could identify with some of your struggles. Yet, instead of succumbing to the pain and wallowing in self-pity, you have used that pain to motivate yourself to a higher consciousness through broadening  your horizons in your problem-solving process.

I sense you possess the tools you need to complete your project of reaching your goal of contentment. You merely need to learn how to use those tools, and are in the process of learning, by reaching out to kindred spirits.

"We teach best what we most need to learn", Richard Bach wrote, possibly paraphrased, along with "We are all learners and doers and teachers".

As I've commented, there are quite a few other posters here who provide great info when requested. Kinda like the late Esme, a doyenne extraordinaire, with her nsg dx explanations.

I think we need a 'Hall of Fame'!. Can't be more positive than that!

Esme would be at the top for a posthumous Emerita award. I can think of 3 others right off hand for their consistent good info/advice.

A Hall of Fame for those who are gone now, and once touched our lives, is a endearing idea, amoLucia.

Two of the hospitals I worked at had portraits of some of the employees who once worked there, and were no longer with us, hanging in certain hallways.

It was nice to pass by the portraits, see some I once knew, as a memorial, in a place of honor.
