Hi all! I was wondering if students in an ADN program full time have a summer break? I have orientation coming up so I guess I should wait....however my husband wants to know for planning purposes....

Depends on the program. Generally, yes. Have you contacted your school to find out?
I wanted to but then realized that today is a holiday...lol

I am looking at two ADN programs. One in my city doesn't have any summer classes, the other starts June 4th. So it really depends on the program.

My ADN program only offers summer classes for the part timers, not full timers. From what I understand, you can take one additional class in the summer if you're full time and space permits but it doesn't allow you to move quicker in the program because normal full time semesters are 2 classes and they only let you take 1 in the summer.

I am in a five semester ADN program. We do NOT get summers off. We go straight through. We had one week between spring and summer semester.

We have summers off but of course if you want to shorten the amount of time spent in prereqs you take summer classes!

My ADN program is five semesters: spring, fall, spring, summer, fall. The first summer, there are no classes, but there are during the second summer semester.

My program offered Psych NUR this summer for those who wished to lighten their course load in the Fall, so I am taking it, as a matter of fact, most of us are. First year taught us that anything we can do to lessen stress is a definite plus.

I believe it all depends on your individual school program because most all have different ways of doing things. In my school we are allowed to take nursing classes over the summer if they do not have a clinical/lab component. For instance first year students are able to take Nursing Fundamentals and Pharmacology during the summer.

I'm just starting our ADN program this fall. We do not have to take summer classes. It a 2 year traditional Sept-Dec, winter break, Jan-May program. Many students work on their BSN transfer classes in the summer though. Good Luck in your studies..

My ADN program had no summer nursing classes, but it required non-nursing classes, which met during the summer.
