Nice work, President Trump!

"After four years of the Biden administration deliberately exacerbating the crisis, while claiming it could do nothing, the Trump administration has managed to cut fentanyl trafficking in half and bring down border crossings 93% year-over-year. Best of all, the Trump administration located more than 120,000 of the missing children trafficked under Joe Biden. And that is only the beginning of this year's accomplishments for federal immigration enforcement officers, according to a Dec. 19 DHS press release.”

I refuse to read the article, but I'd like to read the evidence that "After four years of the Biden administration deliberately exacerbating the crisis, while claiming it could do nothing, "

Again, credit where credit is due.  If drug trafficking is down in 2025 good on Trump, but why lie and make stuff up?

I see nothing wrong with tooting a horn for Trump and his accomplishments, but isn't it time nearly a year later to leave Biden in the past and praise Trump and leave it at that?  (I remember posting an NPR article months ago about the dramatic drop in Fentanyl deaths.)

This story illustrates perfectly the corrupt cast of characters that are actually running the government, who know enough to throw a bone Trump's way to get him to go along.

Rubio is seeking revenge against his parents' home country of Cuba, by trying to prevent the import of oil .

Miller is inciting a war against imaginary drug gangs.

Hegseth imagines that he is a mighty warrior, who doesn't need to rely on his generals and military lawyers to be sure he is following international law.

Trump thinks the oil is his.

I remember when it was criticized that the US lifted some sanctions on Venezuelan oil to help bring down prices here during the Ukraine War.  Oil seems to be at the heart of a lot of things.  Kudos to the reporter of wrote such a thorough and detailed analysis.

I think Trump is correct that the midterms will be about prices and affordability.  Things are looking up and it's vital that things continue to keep looking up.  It's how he won the election in the first place, it's how they can keep winning elections.  It's the economy but I guess we can't leave Biden out of it.

Trump's acknowledgment that 2026 will focus on "pricing" underscores the administration's concern that the Democrats have, for the moment, a popular message. After insisting that affordability was a Democratic "con job", Trump over the last few weeks has repeatedly sought to reframe the issue, arguing that it was the Democrats under Biden who caused prices to increase and that he is bringing them down.

Democrats did pretty well in November, so I don't know how Trump will counter that. Especially if he goes out and makes speeches about his wife's panties. He seems to be losing the latino voters, and independents. If congress doesn't do something about the ACA subsidies, I doubt the 4 million affected will support the GOP.

A lot can happen between now and November. We might be at war with Venezuela and  I don't think military families are willing to sacrifice their loved ones for cheap gas.  We could have an avian flu epidemic which I doubt the CDC is ready for. The president could become (even more) incapacitated or even die.

None of that will be as important to voters as the price of groceries and making ends meet.  Reuters had a snippet on their podcast today about a food giveaway in Michigan in an area that voted for Trump.  People were struggling having Christmas for their families and getting groceries at the same time and showed up for free food.  Even they said they were willing to give Trump more time.  If they perceive prices are lower and the economy is good, it's more of a win for Trump than anything else.  They don't seem to care what he does and what he lies about.

I pretty much agree with all that.

There is also a large number of retirements from congress.

And, I feel like a large number of Trump voters only show up at the polls to vote for Trump.  So. they'll sit this one out.

Then, there is the historic results of midterms.

Since things don't look great for the Republicans anyway, this might be the time to bite the bullet on the ACA subsidies.  Of course, they could take this opportunity to fix healthcare, but time is growing short for that.  I never had much hope that was going to happen.

All in all, I don't believe the midterms are going to go well for Republicans.

That seems to be consensus given the recent elections and historically mid-terms don't go well for the incumbent's party.  Time will tell and these are different times where patterns from the past don't hold true.  After all, Trump won the recent election and the swing states.  That wasn't supposed to happen.

Republicans have never encountered an opportunity to fix healthcare that they couldn't just ignore.  Breaking or repealing the ACA has long been a much higher priority for congressional Republicans, according to their legislative history and commentary on the subject.

All in all, it appears that Trump is planning to postpone midterms because of some yet to be solidified "national security threat", like a war.  I imagine liberals will be flocking to the polling places if allowed to vote.

I believe there is a saying that "Every President needs a war." Well it looks like 47 has got his, and in every way you would expect from him - illegal, no real reason for it except to make money and show what a strongman he is and also without permission from congress and probably the American people.

He knows he can't invade Canada or Greenland so he picks on somebody weaker.

These are the actions of a despot, a dictator and a tyrant.

Well, he is not getting a Nobel Peace Prize this year.

This new war may well provide Trump's justification for postponing midterm elections here. Certainly Speaker Johnson will be eager to support Trump in whatever he wants.  At least that's what history and evidence suggest.  It will be interesting to see if Trump can run Venezuela better than he can run this country.  Seems unlikely since it started by breaking international law.

Its pretty early in this to tell what's going to happen.  But, I don't see a war happening.

As far as legality goes, I guess if you consider Madero to be a legitimate president, its pretty cut and dry that Trump acted illegally.  Do you recognize Madero to be a legitimate president?

How is Trump making money on this?
