Saw the highest temp I've ever seen on a person ever in my career this AM. Confirmed with two different thermomenters ax. and rectally. :)

Even on a dying person I've never seen one this high.

Needless to say, poor "client" was unresponsive, no BP, hr 160s, the whole septic shock scenerio.

What's the highest temp you've ever seen?

Holy moly!! What happened to the patient after this??

Highest temp I've ever seen was in one of my LTC residents a few years ago.........106 degrees, and nothing would bring it down. He was in the process of dying, and we had to put cold cloths on him every 10 minutes because he was so restless and uncomfortable, despite being obtunded. This went on for three days, until the poor man finally passed away, about 15 minutes after I'd given him 5 mg. of morphine and a Tylenol suppository. Even then, I remember it took a long time for him to cool down........the family was 2 hours away by car, and he was still warm when they arrived at the facility to see him before the funeral home came to transport him.

I can't even imagine having a fever that high. About 12 years ago I spiked a temp of 104.5 during an attack of flu, and I was hallucinating........I saw these cobalt-blue strings hanging from the ceiling, and I was fighting with my family because I needed to go out (at 3 AM) to vote! (The election was still four or five days away, but my brains were so fried I couldn't tell you WHAT day it was, what year, or even what town we were in.) Weird.

I think 106.4 is the highest I have seen. The doctor had us put a sheet under her and literally pour ice chests full of crushed Ice on her while we held the sheet out like a sling to contain the ice.. She survived for a few days but never regained consciousness.

I have had fevers of 106 on several ocasions, related to an autoimmune disorder - it gets treated with prednisone. My MD makes sure that I keep prednisone with me. (wonder how many brain cells of mine are dead?)

I have seen a few 107s in Leukemics - one or two that recovered and at least two that stayed coherent. I sometimes wonder what the core temp really is but they are always pancytopenic.

(I love how in med/nursing school they use the "not compatible with life" phrase - I bet we all have seen those living "not compatible with life" - lytes, SPO2s, labs and VSs)

My dd had a very of 104.5 she was 16 month, that highest i ever seen.

my son had a temp of 105.2 when he was six. he had vesicoureteral reflux and developed pyelonephritis. when they got ready to take him to his room, we got on the elevator and it was jammed full of people. andy looks up at me and says. "mommy, will you scrape me now?" still dunno what that means..lol, :) Wendy

My dd had a temp of 106, which was done in the back of a military ambulance.... uh, did I say ambulance? I meant mini-van-mini-ambulance.

We were follwing in the car behind when we saw them pull into a gas station in downtown Naha, Japan (major city). Bewildered, and terrified that we had "lost" her, we followed. The driver rushed into the grocery store next to the gas station and bought as much ice as he could.

When I saw the title of your thread, I thought surely you must be telling us about a radio station. Geez louise!

The highest I ever saw was 105.7 in my almost two year old son, at the time was extremely poor lived way out in country, had no phone, no neighbors, and my car wouldn't start!! My bestfriend and i took turns swabbing him down with cool water all night and alternating tylenol and ibuprofen q 3 hours and thankfully my mother arrived early the next morning to check on us ( or maybe it had something to do with the car being broke i dont remember) was the scariest night of my life, did i mention i was 33 weeks preggers. and my friend was about 28 weeks. we were emotional wrecks!

Finally got him to the md and all they could find was ear infection, LOL. this kid has since surprised me with exceptionally high fevers for very minor illnesses but that first time when we were stranded and helpless was too scary!

I spiked at 105 when I was 6, I had scarlettina (sp) I remember that I couldn't tell the difference from being asleep or being awake. My dreams were so weird...I still remember that.
