do you support the use of therapeutic marijuana?

at the recent ana house of delegates meeting, ana approved a resolution that supports the use of medical marijuana/cannabis. specifically the resolution stated that ana:

*support research on the therapeutic efficacy of marijuana/cannabis

*support right of patient to have access to therapeutic marijuana/cannabis under appropriate prescriber supervision

*support health care providers discussion or recommendation to use medicinal marijuana/cannabis

*support legislation to remove criminal penalties for bona fide patients and prescribers of therapeutic marijuana/cannabis

*support federal and state legislation to exclude marijuana/cannabis from classification as a schedule i drug

*support the education of rn's regarding current evidence-based therapeutic use of marijuana/cannabis

psna would like to hear from you so as to determine how pa nurses feel about this issue. what do you think of ana's support for therapeutic marijuana/cannabis use? should psna adopt a similar position? please share your comments with michele campbell, psna executive administrator at [email protected] or 1-888-707-7762, ext. 200.

No worse than all the other legal drugs that are prescribed mowadays. Makes for happy nurses.

Absolutely. Especially for patients who have n/v due to chemotherapy. We should not deny a patient a drug that will help them just because it is used as a recreational drug.

Absolutely. I also support its legalization and taxation, just like booze and cigarettes, for personal use.

What they said

Absolutely...if it is being used for a therapeutic reason, why not? I also don't think it should be just limited to people with terminal illnesses; there are many diseases that cause severe pain/nausea, and if it helps, terrific.

How is organic (real weed) different from Marinol?

I think it should be legal for the terminal pts. Come on, compared to morphine, Oxy, etc marijuana is Nothing!!!!!!!!!

Ditto all the above. Absolutely.

Seriously! Can anyone explain to me how the phamacology is different? Or is it?

I say absolutely, without question.

I'm not advocating drug abuse or anything..but if helps someone why notttt? As a former 'wild child' I smoked pot, drank,ect,ect...I had it down pat...1 mixed drink, then smoke, then I could drink all night without bowing to the 'porcelien(sp?) goddess' aka puking my guts up. I think it would work wonders for all the chemo pts with severe nausea.

Medical use ONLY.
