Hello All,

Hoping that fellow students can help me out. I want to know if it is a good idea to take Chemistry and A&PI in the same semester. I am not working but hoping to get a part-time position as a CNA. I am single without any children and realistically go out every other weekend to dinner. I know once classes start there is no social life, I am pretty disciplined in my studies. Help me decide please.

If you are willing study you can do it. I took Chem 1 and Patho in the same semester and got an A in Chem and a B in Patho (no one got an A in Patho - but that story belongs under hard classes or impossible teachers)

It's possible to take both and do well, but I personnally wouldn't. I took Chem last term & am currently in A&P. I got an A in Chem & probably wouldn't if I took it with another science course, but that's just me. You might be better in it than I am. All I know is that A&P is a tough, tough class. I spend a lot of time studying for it. I got a high A on our first exam and a low B on the second exam. ( I've got 2 more exams and a lab practical to go in the next 2 weeks. ACK! ) But if you think you can do it, then go for it. I just know I need as much time to study as I possibly can get and am glad that the only other class I am taking right now is an informatics class (low stress, low work...and I've got an A so far) :)

I did it. I took A&P,Chem, Music and Dev. Psych. I do not work but I am a mom. I did great in all of those. My only B was A&P. I also did it with second semester. Same thing.. A&P II and organic chem, nutrition, and commications. I think that you can do it. My daughter is in daycare all day so I did all my studying during that time. I also got up really early and studied in the morning so my weekends would be free.

If you are disciplined I see no reason why you couldn't ace them both!

I took A&P I in a 10 week summer session while working full-time and I got an A. I was very disciplined in my studies.

I don't see why you couldn't do it if you are just working part-time and have a whole semester.

You can do it. If your only taking the two science classes and working part time then it should be O.K. I would'nt take a lot of other classes though. But it all depends on your capabilities though, everyone is different in this regard. I took A&P, Human Dev., English, Math and worked full time with two kids and made it through O.K. Took five classes last semester including the A&P II.(although having 3 days to prepare for the finals isn't something I would recommend) The secret for me was what to study or rather studying the essentials. Not the way to do it, but you do what you can with the time you have. I don't think two classes, even if they are sciences classes, by themselves will be that hard. B.T.H

Side note, you can try taking the A&P and Micro together instead of chemistry,as the material from Micro & A&P overlap with one another. But in the end, I think it shouldn't really matter because only taking two classes together shouldn't be that hard, even the science classes. Study the essentials first and fill in the blanks if you have time. Most importantly, don't pscyche yourself out before hand or make the experience harder on yourself then it has to be. Believing in yourself is half the battle.

I dont think it would be to hard at all. I took Chem and Nutrition this summer and made an A in Chem and an A in Nutrition and I have 2 small kids at home so I never have much time to really study.

Next semester I will be taking Micro, Physiology, Sociology and World Relgion Philosophy. I took 14 credits last semester as well and made all A's too.

But only taking 2 classes during a normal semester should not be that bad at all if you are only working part time and no kids. You will do great I am sure!! Go for it and good luck!!

I know one girl at my school who has 2 young school age kids, works full time and takes 18 credits per semester (that is 5 classes) and has a 3.5 GPA which is pretty darn good considering!! I always think if she can do it anyone can, and she is not one of those who is just smart naturally and makes easy A's, she studies her butt off late at night, every night.

Been there, done that. Like the other posters have mentioned, you just need to be disciplined as both of these classes are challenging. A&P I is going to require a lot of memorization but the concepts aren't all the tough. Chemistry I may have some tough concepts and you will be required to proficient in algebra and perform mathematical problems, but you don't have a lot to memorize.

Lets see. IMHO, it all depends on you and how you study. It also depends on the class, and teacher.

I took 18 credits which included: English, Dev. Psych, Stats, Chem and A&P1.

THIS WAS TOOOOOO MUCH. To many difficult classes, with difficult teachers who didnt care about anything outside their classes. I have a job, DH, and 2 kiddos... I was MISERABLE!! LIFE WAS A LIVING NIGHTMARE!! BUT I made it through. I was ready to WRING my advisors neck. Towards the end of the semester, I asked her WHAT she was thinking!! She replied " oh, I guess it was a bit much wasn't it" Like it was NO BIG DEAL.

I dont think you will have any problems, just plan on studying a lot. YOU Can do it!

The most I have done is 16 credits and that would be my max. You can do it if you plan to study. good luck.

It sounds like you have thought it through and should be able to manage just fine. Study hard and stay focused on the end result. good luck with your choice.

I took A&PI, chemistry and nutrition in one semester and got all A's. It wasn't really that difficult. If you're disciplined then you'll do fine.

I think it's totally up to you. Do you really think you can handle it. As for me, I didn't know any better....lol...and I took Chem 101 and A & P 1 together... I will never take 2 science courses together again....I didn't know if I was coming or going. I did get an A+ in A & P 1...that's because I was fascinated with it....I got a C in Chem 101....that's another story.....lol. But like I said, if yoiu think you can handle it... do it...how often are you going to have class during the week?
