Hey everyone!

I got sick a few days before I was scheduled to take NCLEX. I ended up in the ER the night before the test and being admitted. I stayed one week on tele and one week med-surg. I'm all better now :yeah:and survived the horror of being in the hospital (as a patient) with the help of some awesome nurses! I mean they kept me sane through all the diagnostics and terrible labs. Being the patient with more than average medical knowledge is very difficult. While I was there I was known as the girl who had to miss NCLEX because I was sick and they felt really bad for me. The offered words of encouragement and would frequently pop in my room to check on me. They were just great! I would definitely love to work with a team of great nurses like that! Here's the thing... there is a job posted for the floor I was on.The nurses did mention that once I got my license (had to pay and wait all over again to reschedule NCLEX) that I should definitely apply for a job there. Would it be appropriate to go up to the unit and personally thank all of them and let them know I have my license now? This was recent, I was d/c about 5 weeks ago and I was there for a while so I know they should remember me. Any thoughts???

Thanks!

I don't think it could hurt. Glad you're all better!

Glad you're OK - and congrats on licensure!

Yes, go to the unit with a nice thankful cover letter addressed to the Nurse Manager and an attached copy of your resume and just say you'd like to throw your hat in the ring for consideration because you would love to work with that team - they take good care of patients!

But don't stop there - you can use the story of your hospitalization in your cover letter for other jobs - you don;t have to name anyone or the facility - but by describing the great nursing care you so recently received you let the hiring manager know something about your character.

Keep applying to lots of places! Good luck!

It couldn't hurt! Show up in person, dressed for an interview, with your resume.

Sure! Let them know you passed. They might be wondering about you.. you never know.

As far as going for a job there. Wouldn't hurt either. Tell the NM you were so impressed with the care and you'd like to be part of this unit.

I think it would be absolutely appropriate

Yes, very appropriate..it's called "networking". Go for it

Thank you all for your responses!

Hey - glad ur feeling better! As a patient myself more times than I like to admit, it's never fun to be in a hospital, but with nurses like that, i is a lot easier. I would definetly go for it!

Let me know how it goes, and I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Why not? You already know you like them- that is a perk, though how people are with patients isn't the same as how they are with each other all the time- but the initial impression is good ..... go for it

Go! Go! Go! The sooner the better! Why would you not???? You have a better shot at that pos than just about everybody else who sends in an internet app.
