Just wondering if anyone else is working while going to nursing school and how you are doing? I am getting ready to start my new job (CNA) on Sunday from 4p-10p with four days on, two days off. What type of hours do you work?

I work 32 hours per week as an LPN/LVN and attend an RN program full-time. I have Monday through Friday off while working two 16 hour weekend double shifts every Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 10pm.

I am in my first semester in our LVN program and I work 40hrs a week. We goto school monday and tuesday from 0830-1530 and now we have clinicals on wednesday and thursday 0530-1500. Friday's off. I work on Thursday and friday from 2000-0400. I also work Sat and Sun 1600-0400. It's tough but do-able. I think it just depends on your determination.I AM DETERMINED!! Good luck!!

I will start an LPN program full-time this September. Right now I'm working 40 hours on 2nd shift... but once nursing school starts, I'll be cutting back to 32 hours a week. I'll be working every weekend and 2 evening shifts a week.

I started an LPN program in November 2009 and am finishing up my second term. It's a 16-month evening program. I work part-time (around 20 hours/week) and also have two small children at home. Nearly all of my classmates work, have children, or both. It's hard but doable. You just have to learn some good time management skills. Most of us are doing very well in the program while managing our outside lives.

I'm discussing hours with my job right now. I tried to do full time work and school. I thought I'd be one of the exceptions that can make that work. But I can't. I tried from January til now and I'm not doing nearly as well as I want in class. I'm passing but that's not enough of a margin for me. I'm also used to doing very well but I'd be happy with a solid B, not lowish C range. And I feel really bad when people at work compare me to those who have families etc, work AND school. But it's not the same. For me, I can't do it. I don't have back up support, it's just me and if I crash, that's huge for me. I know everyone has their own road and I really thought I could do it. Admitting I can't now is admitting defeat, to some extent and I'm not happy about that
I may have just quit my job just now but I can't tell yet. I told them I can do Sat/Sun 6p-6a starting now but she wanted two weeks from now. I know it's late notice and I do apologize for that but in the next two weeks, some REALLY important stuff happens. She said no, you have to do weekdays (I'm sat-tues graveyard now) and my reply was then I will have to quit.
So there's my line in the sand. We'll see how it turns out.

For the first term in the VN program, I went to school from Monday through Thrusday. I worked in the NOC shift on Thursday and Friday, and Saturday and Sunday in the PM shift. However, in the second term...I attend school Monday through Friday and I'm scheduled to work on the NOC shift on Friday and PM shift on the weekend. It may seem overwhelming, but I thank my blessings for being single and being determined in completing the VN program in the next 2 1/2 months.
