So I just got a job working as a nurse. YAY! I will take my NCLEX next month.
So when I come home from work, I do some questions. I'm glad I studied my butt off the past 2 weeks when I didn't have a job... because now, I don't have a lot of time to be studying. I've done almost 2,000 questions already. I can't do as many questions now though. On a few Kaplain question trainers, I've been getting 63-64%. On my Kaplan diagnostic test, so far I'm making a 75%.
I'm feeling pretty confident with NCLEX (not so much my job because I'm training at the moment). Have YOU worked full-time and studied for the NCLEX? I guess I just want to hear some good things about working full-time and studying for a board exam.

i wouldnt recommed working full time while preparing for the nclex...it can be done though ...i had to still stay at a part time schedule when i finished school b/c this exam was a FULL TIME job for me...... I was broke though lol....full time work can be stressful...make u tired when trying to study....but it can be done by dedication
Yeah. I'm pretty dedicated. Today, I was very sleepy when I got home... and yet I stayed awake to do 70 practice questions.
how can you do questions when sleepy? Are u sure u retained any info? Make sure u are fully relaxed for the real thing though..

I work fulltime at a state psychiatic unit as a tech currently. I was on the 3pm-11pm (swing) shift since being hired 1 1/2 years ago. (Graduated 2 years ago, took NCLEX did not pass needed a job and money) Recently I transfered over to the 11pm-7am (graveyard) shift which allows me to study most nights for about 4-5 hours while at work because most of the pts are asleep. I am hoping this will be the turn around I needed to pass because working 3pm-11pm did not allow much much *functional* study time. I did question and content before and ater work but really could not concentrate.

Their are some people who have the luxury of being home or having better work hours than some, so therefore they can have that extra study time. But for people who have to do what they have to do, like work weird hours, two jobs, or whatever I applaud those people because alot of them pass their NCLEX boards inspite of the difficulties. So press forward and do what you got to do.

You can do ANYTHING you put your mind to!
I won't share my story as this is your thread but when I started this journey I knew there would be road blocks and various obstacles that I would have to run through, climb over, or go around. Make a study plan to prepare yourself and stick to it. You are almost to the finish line!
Yes, I retain the info. In fact, I've gotten a better score on the Kaplan questions.

Like anything else, you have to make the time to study or time will pass and it will get more and more difficult.

Not working full time is not even an option for me. I am also in my fifties & now studying for state boards after working as LPN for last 16 yrs (a second profession). If you want something bad enough, you will find the strength and resources to get the job done. Sacrificing alot of "social" time.

I'm working full time as a tech (as in 3 12 hr shifts/week), I study on my days off. I give you credit for studying after a 12 hr shift...I'm way to exausted after that day to do anything at all.

I would just suggested on your days off study core material.....such as saunders book, and hurst review was great. I'm not new to nursing just in a newer role I have been an lpn 10 yrs and have been an Rn about a month. Before that I was a cna. But whatever you do study. And also do alot of select all that apply questions, Look on the website and see the new format for the 2011 exam if you haven't already.
